Ricardo GARECA on coaching Argentina: “No one ever called me or contacted me”

45

Ricard GARECA was being linked to the Argentina job last month but he has come out and stated that no one from the AFA contacted him.

Following the departure of Jorge SAMPAOLI as coach of the Argentina National Team, several names were (and are still) being linked with the vacant position. While Lionel SCALONI is the interim coach and no announcement has been made as to who the new coach is, GARECA has come out and not only spoken about himself but also of Diego SIMEONE and Mauricio POCHETTINO.

Talking about himself and the AFA to the media, here’s what GARECA had to say:

“I never got a call, not even anything informal to coach Argentina. I am totally dedicated in wanting to work with National Teams.”

GARECA spoke about taking a short hiatus and thinking about his future as a coach before signing once more with the Peruvian National Team:

“I wanted some silence because I wanted to listen and to hear. Had Argentina called me, it would have changed things.”

GARECA gave his thoughts on the AFA wanting to get Diego SIMEONE or Mauricio POCHETTINO as coach of the Argentina National Team.

“You can’t go to get someone that states that it’s not their time to coach the NAtional Team. You can’t go to coach if they have to convince you, if you go to coach, it’s because you feel it.”

Carlos TEVEZ comments on Lionel MESSI’s absence from Argentina team

14

Carlos Tevez commented on seeing his friend Lionel MESSI as well as the captain’s absence from the Argentina team.

Boca Juniors are presently in Spain to play Barcelona at the Camp Nou for the Joan Gamper trophy. While there, former Argentina man Carlos TEVEZ spoke about seeing MESSI and Lionel’s decision of not wanting to go back to the Argentina National Team. Speaking with TNT Sports, here’s what TEVEZ had to say:

“It’s nice to meet MESSI again. To greet him again, say a few words. Watching him play and going up against him is very nice.

“I believe it’s a personal decision. It’s understandable if MESSI doesn’t come back to the Argentina National Team. I was in his spot and the truth is that with so much criticism, sometimes, I didn’t want to go.”

TEVEZ was under heavy criticism himself several years back by fans and media. He showed up overweight and didn’t particularly play very well at the 2011 Copa America where he ultimately missed a deciding penalty against Uruguay where Argentina got eliminated. He was then not selected from the team during all of Alejandro SABELLA’s reign as coach up until Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO recalled him to the team over three years later.

Leandro PAREDES, Geronimo RULLI, more expected to make Argentina team

Many young faces who were not part of Argentina’s World Cup squad are expected to make the team for September.

According to Ole, Geronimo RULLI, German PEZZELLA, Ramiro FUNES MORI, Leandro PAREDES, Santiago ASCACIBAR, Mauro ICARDI and Lautaro MARTINEZ are all set to be named by Lionel SCALONI to the Argentina team. Of those names, only goalkeeper RULLI and midfielder ASCACIBAR have yet to play for the National Team.

Only player from the domestic league is Matias VARGAS, the young 21 year old Velez player could make the team as well.

As we reported a few days ago, Lautaro MARTINEZ, Mauro ICARDI and Paulo DYBALA are not only expected to get the call but also start. Giovani LO CELSO and Franco ARMANI should also be making the squad.

Lionel MESSI has reportedly refused a call-up to the team and will likely not be included in the team for the rest of the year.

Lionel MESSI refuses to get called-up to Argentina National Team, will not play

Lionel MESSI will not get called-up for the Argentina National Team this year.

According to various sources, MESSI has refused a call-up and will not play for Argentina this year. Apparently, MESSI will not play until further notice. This can be until next year, the year after or even retirement. No one but MESSI knows.

Interim Argentina coach (and former team mate of MESSI’s at the 2006 FIFA World Cup) Lionel SCALONI reportedly called MESSI to speak with him and the Argentina captain told him “I appreciate it but no”. The reasons (per what is being reported) is because of the pain of the last World Cup as well as a lack of project and management within the team.

Lisandro LOPEZ on target as Racing Club draw Tucuman in Argentina Superliga

The last match of the first week was between Atletico Tucuman and Racing Club and it didn’t disappoint.

Racing were all over Tucuman in the first few minutes of the match. Matias ZARACHO had a shot from close range which bounced off the crossbar as Tucuman were left off the hook. That was until former Argentina man Lisandro LOPEZ opened the scoring for Racing Club in the 28th minute with a lovely one touch shot which curled into the back of the net.

Gustavo BOU doubled their lead following an individual effort by Augusto SOLARI who played a simple pass to BOU and he had an open net in front of him to score.

Guillermo ACOSTA brought Tucuman back in it as his shot bounced a few times along the way before beating ARIAS. BOU nearly added a third shortly after but his effort hit the side netting.

David BARBONA finally got Tucuman level with a lovely effort from long range although it must be said that ARIAS should probably have done better on the shot.

Leandro DIAZ had the match winner and should have scored to turn the comeback into a victory for Tucuman but his close range effort went over the crossbar.
