Edgardo BAUZA’s meeting with the AFA took place on Thursday and the verdict is out.
The Argentina National Team coach met with the AFA president TAPIA as well as TINELLI regarding his future. TAPIA has come out and stated that Edgardo BAUZA will remain as the Argentina National Team coach and will resume working next week.
However, they will all meet again next week to keep talking regarding the team.
The legendary Gabriel BATISTUTA has recalled a story he has involving the current Argentina National Team.
Gabriel BATISTUTA, the second all time leading goalscorer of the Argentina National Team, has come out and told a story regarding himself and the current Argentina National Team. BATISTUTA, who was on a TyC Sports, spoke about how he was recently with the Argentina National Team (he didn’t specify when) and how some of the players reacted to him being there. He also spoke about Lionel MESSI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN. Here’s what he had to say:
Gabriel BATISTUTA on the Argentina National Team:
“I entered the dressing room and half of them didn’t even extend their hand. There was a certain coldness to it, that’s how it was. I took it as something that is generational. I have nothing to do with them. However, I would have liked for them to greet me, not for who I am but because at one time I played there and shared the dressing room.”
Gabriel BATISTUTA on the mess that is the AFA:
“I don’t think they disrespected me, maybe they just didn’t feel it… I think they didn’t get help from the coaches, there’s no world champions around there for example. BILARDO’s one of the coaches who has won the World Cup and he didn’t even get a ticket… My God, that’s insane. It’s an incredible mess.”
Gabriel BATISTUTA on Lionel MESSI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN:
“I really like HIGUAIN. But it’s obvious that he’s not doing the same thing he’s been doing at Juventus. MESSI could have stayed in Spain and avoided travelling 14,000km to hear us criticizing him.”
While BATISTUTA did not specify on when it took place, one could speculate that it was at Copa America or even a World Cup Qualifier which took place in Argentina.
Lionel MESSI has won several titles in his illustrious career but according to him, the one you win at the Olympics is the most valued.
The Argentina and Barcelona captain sat down with Esquire magazine and spoke about a number of topics. From Argentina to the sacrifices he had to make to become a player even to his private life, Lionel Messi commented about it. Here’s what he had to say:
Lionel MESSI on Argentina National Team:
“I understand the people that ask and demand their National Team to win something but no one more than the players who make up the National Team want to win that title (World Cup).”
Lionel MESSI on most important title:
“The most valued title is that of the Olympics because it’s a tournament that you get to play in once in your life. It’s where you get to live with athletes from different sports.”
Lionel Messi with the gold medal he won with Argentina at the 2008 Olympics.
Lionel MESSI on sacrifices:
“To be an elite player, one has to sacrifice a lot but not more than any other worker who has to provide for their family. It’s difficult but it’s what I chose.”
Lionel MESSI on maturing as a player:
“I’m calmer when I think and I pick my moments.”
Lionel MESSI on his personal life and his pastime:
“Being with my kids and and enjoying playing with them. Also, watching television.”
The comments against the media came after a few journalists were reporting and attacking the team, more specifically Ezequiel LAVEZZI. The team have not spoken to the media since November.
According to reports, the announcement regarding Edgardo BAUZA’s departure will be made soon.
Per a report by Ole , Edgardo BAUZA’s departure will be made official shortly. It also states that the Argentina National Team will have a new coach for their next match which will be against Brazil in June.
The AFA president (TAPIA) will apparently be travelling to Europe to speak to Lionel MESSI regarding the team and his suspension.
Former Argentine International and current Estudiantes President Juan Sebastian VERON was a guest on Fox Sport Argentina’s show called La Llave del Gol where he gave his thoughts on the current situation with Argentina’s national team.
When asked about who he feels should replace Edgardo BAUZA, La Brujita said that he prefers his former National Team colleague Mauricio POCHETTINO (current Spurs manager), Eduardo BERIZZO (Celta Vigo) or Diego SIMEONE (Atletico Madrid) to take charge.
He also said that the current squad contains many players that were effected badly by the criticism and the pressure they’re going through now.
