Marcelo BIELSA: SAMPAOLI is better than me

27

Marcelo BIELSA spoke about Jorge SAMPAOLI and Diego SIMEONE.

Former Argentina National Team and Olympic gold winning coach Marcelo BIELSA has come out and commented on both Jorge SAMPAOLI and Diego SIMEONE. BIELSA appeared on Brazilian television where he stated that “as an Argentine, I don’t want Brazil to win.” He was also offered a shirt of the Brazil National Team but refused to post with it. Regarding Jorge SAMPAOLI and Diego SIMEONE, here’s what he had to say:

Marcelo BIELSA on Jorge SAMPAOLI:

“False modesty is one thing that I Reject a lot because it is to induce the other person to think the opposite of what I’m saying. It is a kind of manipulation. With that said, SAMPAOLI is not a disciple of mine because he’s better than me. And I don’t say that with false modesty.”

“One of the virtues for a coach is flexibility. Don’t fall in love with your own idea. But at the same time one has to fall in love to be able to convince. There needs to be a mixture of humility and conviction to defend the ideas one choses. I never dwell on my ideas and that is a defect. SAMPAOLI instead can renounce his ideas because he has the power of adaptation which I don’t have.”

“That makes him better than me. He’s solved things by moving away from the original starting point, while I’ve never given up my way of looking at football. I don’t consider him a disciple because from my unbiased point of view, his ideas, which are comparable to mine, is better. I could not do what he does.”

Marcelo Bielsa on Diego SIMEONE:

“You ask me if SIMEONE’s system is effective and pleasant. Yes, it is pleasant and it is effective, very often. SAMPAOLI’s system is also effective with much regularity and is also pleasant. Just because there are differences doesn’t make them better or worse, simply different.”

It wasn’t just Argentina National Team veterans who scored over the weekend but Manuel LANZINI also showed why he should part of the National Team. Manuel LANZINI continues to impress in London derby’s, this time scoring the only goal in West Ham’s 1-0 win against Tottenham. The win for LANZINI’s West Ham means the league title chances for Mauricio POCHETTINO’s Tottenham are all but over. LANZINI’s record in London derbies is 9 goals in 15 matches, with two goals against Chelsea, four agaisnt Crystal Palace and three against Tottenham.

Lionel MESSI double, Nicolas OTAMENDI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN also score

Lionel MESSI, Nicolas OTAMENDI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN all found the back of the net on the weekend.

Argentina and Barcelona’s magical little number 10 scored a brace for Barcelona in their 4-1 win against Villarreal. The two strikes were number 50 and 51 this season for MESSI as he has marks another season where he has scored over 50 goals and becomes the first player to score 50 goals in Europe’s top 5 leagues. MESSI’s two goals were vastly different. The first a fine strike from inside the area with the second being a panenka (chipped) penalty kick down the middle.

Nicolas OTAMENDI scored for Manchester City in their 5-0 win against Crystal Palace. City’s win edges them closer to Champions League qualification for next season.

Gonzalo HIGUAIN scored in a 1-1 draw for Juventus against Torino. HIGUAIN’s goal came in injury time to steal a point in the Turin derby.

Lionel MESSI’s Argentina ban completely lifted!

53

Hey everyone,

We have good news today! The ban given to Lionel MESSI has been completely lifted by FIFA (including all fines).  He is now able to play the rest of the games remaining for Argentina’s World Cup Qualifiers.

A FIFA statement read: “The FIFA Appeal Committee has upheld the appeal lodged by the Argentinian Football Association, on behalf of the player Lionel Messi, against the decision taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, lifting the sanctions imposed on him as a result.

“Following a hearing which took place in Zurich on 4 May 2017, the Appeal Committee has set aside the decision taken by the Fifa Disciplinary Committee on 28 March 2017, which, in application of art. 77 a) of the Fifa Disciplinary Code (FDC), had found Lionel Messi guilty of infringing art. 57 of the FDC for having directed insulting words at an assistant referee.

“Despite the fact that the Fifa Appeal Committee considered Lionel Messi’s behaviour as reproachable, the former concluded that the evidence available was not sufficient to establish to the appropriate standard, i.e. to the comfortable satisfaction of the members of the Appeal Committee, that art. 77 a) of the FDC, according to which the Disciplinary Committee is responsible for sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials’ attention, could be applied.

“The Appeal Committee nevertheless underlines the importance of always showing respect to the match officials, stressing that such a principle is essential in football and any unsporting conduct that may be contrary to the principles of fair play cannot be accepted.

“In view of the above decision, the suspension for four matches imposed on Lionel Messi, which entered into force on 28 March 2017, and the fine of CHF 10,000 have been lifted.”

This is huge news for Argentina.  So,  Messi will be back for the team’s next qualifier vs. Uruguay in Montevideo on Aug. 28. Argentina is also currently without a head coach after the dismissal of Edgardo Bauza last month.  As we all know,  the favorite to take over the national team job is current Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli. Hopefully, he is the man to get Argentina to the World Cup and having Messi will certainly help those chances.
