Writers wanted for Mundo Albiceleste!

Calling all Mundo family members!

As you know, the European season is upon us (technically, it is already under way with Ligue 1 beginning last weekend) and this means the fun is just restarting again here on Mundo! If you are a fan of Mundo (and we hope you are!), are passionate about Argentina and love to write, this is your chance!

We are looking to expand Mundo Albiceleste even more. Argentine Primera? Copa Libertadores? Sudamericana? World Cup Qualifiers? Informative articles? Opinionated articles? We’re looking to have all that here on Mundo Albiceleste. If you want to write about any of the topics above, do not hesitate to contact us using the Contact Us form below or by visiting the Contact Us page.

Once more, whether you want to help cover a specific tournament (not necessarily with videos but just your opinion, thoughts and information), apply! If you’ve always wanted to write an article about a certain player, past or present, apply! It does not have to be a weekly thing and please, do not see this as a job! If you have some free time and are looking to write something, you’re more than welcome to do so. And if you would like to cover something specific and make it a weekly (or even a daily) thing, then by all means, submit your application!

If you have any previous experience writing about anything (does not have to be about soccer/football or Argentina related), send us a link and we’ll have a look at it!

Thank you for your time!

Lionel MESSI, Ever BANEGA and more with goals in pre-season

1

As the European friendly matches come to an end, there were still some pre-season trophies to be won and goals to be scored. Lionel MESSI, Ever BANEGA, Nicolas GAITAN and Gio SIMEONE all scored for their clubs.

Lionel MESSI scored the second of Barcelona’s five in their 5-0 victory against Chapecoense of Brazil. The Joan Gampter Trophy was MESSI and MASCHERANO’s last pre-season match ahead of their Spanish Super Cup match against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Ever BANEGA also found the back of the net for Sevilla as he scored both of his team’s goals against Everton in their 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. The Argentina man will look to have a big season under fellow Argentinian Eduardo BERIZZO who took over from current Argentina National Team manager Jorge SAMPAOLI. BANEGA‘s first came following a run inside the area from fellow Argentina team mate Joaquin CORREA. His second was from the penalty spot.

Still in England, Atletico Madrid (lead by the ever energetic Diego SIMEONE) picked up a 2-3 win against Brighton with Nicolas GAITAN scoring.

Speaking of Diego SIMEONE, his son Giovanni scored for Genoa in their 4-0 win against Dutch team Heereneveen. SIMEONE, just like on BANEGA’s second, scored from the spot.

Zenit annnounce Matias KRANEVITTER

Zenit announce Matias KRANEVITTER as their latest signing!

There’s no stopping Argentinians joining Zenit St. Petersburg. The Russian club have today officially announced the signing of Argentinian midfielder Matias MRANEVITTER from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. The former River Plate man will join former Millonarios team mates Sebastian DRIUSSI and Emanuel MAMMANA as he has signed a four year deal with the club. The 24 year old will wear the number 8 shirt.

Best of luck to Matias KRANEVITTER and all the Argentinians at Zenit!

Javier PASTORE and Ezequiel LAVEZZI net for their clubs

Javier PASTORE and Ezequiel LAVEZZI were both on the scoresheets for their clubs.

While all the talk in Paris was regarding NEYMAR’s 222 million move, there was still a Ligue 1 match to be played for the club. PSG hosted Amiens SC in their opening match of the season and picked up a 2-0 victory courtesy of a goal by CAVANI and Argentina’s own Javier PASTORE. PASTORE netted the second of the match. Already 28 years old, this season (especially right before the World Cup) can be seen as a make or break one for flaco.

From Paris all the way to China, PASTORE’s former team mate with the National Team Ezequiel LAVEZZI scored for Hebei China Fortune in their 3-0 win against Yanbian. Both LAVEZZI and PASTORE’s goals are similar as the pass came in from the right hand side and a finish from inside the area.

Emiliano MARTINEZ of Arsenal joins Getafe on loan

2

Emiliano MARTINEZ’s career at Arsenal takes yet another backstep.

Ever since joining Arsenal’s senior team back in 2012, the Argentinian goalkeeper has spent more time on loan than he has at his native club. In 2012, it was at Oxford United. In 2013-2014, it was Sheffield Wednesday. In 2015, Rotherham United along with Wolverhampton Wanderers. This season? A Spanish club who just got promoted back to Spain’s La Liga, Getafe.

The now 24 year old will spend the next year on loan in Madrid alongside fellow Argentinians Daniel DIAZ and Nicolas GOROSITO. Hopefully he’ll be able to establish himself as a starting number one. Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, here’s what MARTINEZ had to say:

Emiliano MARTINEZ on his career:

“I’ve always wanted to improve. It’s never enough for me. My kicking is good but I want to have the perfection of a goalkeeper, even on crosses. I know I’m good on crosses but I still do 50 crosses in training.

“Gerry (PEYTON) says, ‘Last one’, and I will do three more. I look what I can do and what I can improve with the other goalkeepers. I’m always trying to improve myself. If you want to play for Arsenal or be at the top level for many years, that’s what you need to do.

“It’s in my blood to train hard. When you’re not in the squad and you have to train the day after, sometimes it’s hard because you want to be involved in the team and you want to play. I always tell myself, ‘The chance will come and I won’t let it run’. That’s what keeps me going and motivated all the time.

“I came from nothing and I’m at Arsenal now, one of the biggest clubs in the world, but I’m never satisfied. I was third choice fighting for second spot, so maybe the season after I will fight for No 1. You always need to give more at Arsenal. It’s never enough and that’s what I try to do.”

We have also come up with an entire list of Argentinian players in this season’s La Liga. Do check it out!
