Lionel Messi confirms visit to India ahead of friendly match

Lionel Messi has officially confirmed that he will be returning to India this December, more than 14 years after his last visit. The Argentina captain shared a message on Instagram expressing his excitement about the upcoming trip, which will coincide with Argentina’s friendly match in the country.

“I’m truly excited to be visiting such a beautiful country as India this December,” Messi wrote. “It will be a pleasure to attend concerts, youth football clinics, a paddle cup and launch charitable initiatives during events at iconic stadiums in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and maybe one more city… these tickets will be available exclusively on the District app. It will also be an honour to be able to interact and meet with India’s biggest stars and top dignitaries.”

Messi’s post confirmed that his visit will not only be about football but also about cultural and social engagement. Alongside the match, fans in India will have the opportunity to see him participate in various events, including grassroots football initiatives and charity projects.

“Thanks to The Satadru Dutta Initiative for making it possible to come back to India after 14 years,” he added.

Messi last played in India in 2011, when Argentina faced Venezuela in a friendly in Kolkata. His return this year is expected to generate massive excitement, with football fans across the country anticipating the chance to see him again.

Argentina U20 national team win 4-1 vs. Australia at U20 World Cup

The Argentina U20 national team won 4-1 against Australia at the U20 World Cup.

Diego Placente’s team qualified for the Round of 16 at the U20 World Cup with their win against Australia as they made it two wins out of two games. Gorosito would play a through ball in from the wing which would find Alejo Sarco and he would beat his marker and score to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.

With Argentina leading 1-0, Australia would score but the referee would disallow the goal due to a foul. Still at 1-0, Carrizo would receive the ball inside the penalty area on the wing and pass it to Pérez and he would score from close range.

Álvaro Montoro would come close to scoring but his effort hit the cross bar. Two minutes after Montoro’s effort, Argentina goalkeeper Santino Barbi came out of the penalty area but missed the ball and Daniel Bennie would score the open goal.

In injury time, Delgado would get the ball inside the penalty area on the left hand side and pass it to Ian Subiabre who would score to give Argentina the 3-1 lead. Moments later, Andrada would score from the edge of the penalty area and his effort would go into the top of the goal to make it 4-1 for Argentina.

Placente’s team will play Italy on Saturday and if Argentina draw or win, they would top their group.

The Argentina U20 national team starting eleven has been announced for their match against Australia at the U20 World Cup.

Argentina U20 national team coach Diego Placente has named his starting eleven and he will be without Santiago Fernández who was red carded for Argentina in their 3-1 win against Cuba.
