Liverpool coach Arne Slot on Alexis Mac Allister: “Very important player”

2

Liverpool coach Arne Slot has spoken about Alexis Mac Allister, calling him a very important player.

The coach of the newly crowned Premier League champions spoke at a pre-match press conference on Friday and was asked about Alexis Mac Allister. Here is what he had to say:

“I don’t think he is underrated by me because he played maybe every game or close to every game.

Maybe the few times he didn’t play that was because he needed rest or he got a knock, so he couldn’t play.

“[He’s a] very important player, [has] game intelligence [and is] so comfortable on the ball.

“But what makes him even more special to me is normally players that have so much game inside and are so comfortable on the ball are not as aggressive and intense without the ball.

“He is one of the few players in the world that combines this great game intelligence, great on the ball, but [with] a tenacity without the ball. In our midfield, he stands out in terms of tenacity.”

Lautaro Martínez injured for Inter, doubtful for second leg vs. FC Barcelona

Lautaro Martínez was substituted out for Inter against FC Barcelona and is a doubt for their second leg match.

Martínez started for Inter in their 3-3 draw against FC Barcelona in their semi-final Champions League first leg. He was substituted out at half-time with a problem in his left thigh and Inter coach Filippo Inzaghi had this to say about Lautaro’s injury:

“He felt a twinge, but had been playing eight games in a row. Unfortunately, we had these little issues, as I didn’t have Thuram, Taremi was also coming off an injury and I wasn’t able to rotate. When you start eight matches in a row, there is the risk of injury, I hope it’s nothing too serious, but I do have a few doubts.”

The 27 year old has eight goals and one assist in 11 Champions League matches this season. Tuesday’s Champions League match saw PSG win 1-0 against Arsenal.

Vote for the Albiceleste Player of the Month of April

April was a great month for many top Argentine players. We had to narrow it down to the following six: Lionel Messi (Inter Miami), Julián Álvarez (Atlético Madrid), Lautaro Martínez (Inter), Matías Soulé (AS Roma), Franco Mastantuono (River Plate), and Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool). We had to leave out players like Thiago Almada, Valentín Castellanos and Emiliano Buendía, who also had a strong month.

Lionel Messi was crucial for Inter Miami in their comeback win against LAFC in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League. He scored twice against French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, securing his team’s spot in the semifinals of the competition.

Julián Álvarez scored four goals in five matches for Atlético Madrid — one against Sevilla, two against Valladolid, and one against Rayo Vallecano — climbing to fourth place in the La Liga top scorers list this season.

Lautaro Martínez scored in both legs of Inter’s Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich, leading his team to the semifinals. He also found the net in Serie A against Cagliari.

Matías Soulé scored a stunning goal in the Rome derby against Lazio and added another goal against Inter, earning a spot as a regular starter for AS Roma.

Franco Mastantuono scored one of the greatest goals in the history of the Superclásico for River Plate and is now being strongly considered for a call-up by Lionel Scaloni to the Argentina national team — at just 17 years old.

Alexis Mac Allister scored a brilliant goal in Liverpool’s victory that clinched the Premier League title. The Argentine capped off a dream season with the Reds.
