Torino earned a major victory at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday with a 1-0 win over AS Roma, thanks to a spectacular goal by Giovanni Simeone. The Argentine forward, who joined Il Toro just over a month ago, marked his first goal for the club in style, sealing the three points against Paulo Dybala and Matías Soulé’s Roma.

In only his fourth match with Torino, Simeone made the difference midway through the second half. In the 58th minute, the striker controlled the ball near the edge of the box on the left side and unleashed a powerful low shot that beat Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar at the far post.

The result came as a relief for Torino after a difficult start to the Serie A season, which included a heavy 0-5 defeat to Inter and a 0-0 draw against Fiorentina. Roma had entered the match unbeaten after two straight victories, but despite dominating possession and creating several chances, they were unable to convert.

Both Dybala and Soulé started for the home side, but the spotlight quickly shifted to Dybala’s fitness after he was substituted at halftime. The Argentine had only recently returned in August following surgery on his left hamstring tendon, injured in March against Cagliari, and while manager Gian Piero Gasperini had noted before the match that he was improving but not yet ready for a full 90 minutes, his early exit now raises concerns ahead of the upcoming derby against Lazio.
