Franco Mastantuono made Real Madrid history in their 2-1 win against Olympique Marseille in the Champions League.

Mastantuono started for Real Madrid and became Real Madrid’s youngest starter in a Champions League match. At 18 years and 33 days old, he broke the previous record set in November 2024 by Endrick who was 18 years and 73 days old.

The Argentine was substituted out to a standing ovation from the Santiago Bernabeau fans. Following the match, compatriot Leonardo Balerdi, captain of Olympique de Marseille, had commented on Franco Mastantuono and stated that he should not be compared to Lionel Messi.

Leonardo Balerdi spoke about Franco Mastantuono, stating that he does not have to compare himself to Lionel Messi.

Balerdi captained Olympique de Marseille in their 2-1 loss against Franco Mastantuono’s Real Madrid. A match where Gerónimo Rulli made 13 saves for the club.

Following the match, Balerdi spoke to SportsCenter in Argentina and commented on the 18 year old Argentine. Here is what he had to say:

“Franco is phenomenal. You always need to have him close by. We know that his left foot is very dangerous and when he links up with others, he can cause a lot of damage.

“He has to make his own way. He has great things to achieve. He doesn’t have to compare himself to Messi because there’s only one Messi and I think anyone who compares themselves to him is going to have a tough time.”

Gerónimo Rulli made 13 saves for Olympique Marseille in their 2-1 loss against Real Madrid.

Rulli had 13 saves at the Santiago Bernabeau for Olympique Marseille in the Champions League. Despite two penalty kick goals from Kylian Mbappe, the Argentine becomes only the fifth goalkeeper to make 13 or more saves in a single Champions League match since the 2003-2004 season.

He is also only the fifth goalkeeper to make 10 or more saves from inside the penalty area in a single Champions League match since the 2003-2024 campaign.

Leonardo Balerdi captained the team for Marseille with Facundo Medina also in the starting eleven. Franco Mastantuono started for Real Madrid, playing 63 minutes.

Lionel Messi had a goal and an assist for Inter Miami in their 3-1 win against Seattle Sounders.

Messi assisted Jordi Alba for Inter Miami’s first goal and Jordi Alba assisted Lionel Messi for Inter Miami’s second goal. With the score at 0-0, Messi ran towards the Seattle Sounders back line and played a pass in to Jordi Alba who scored to give Inter Miami the 1-0 lead.

At 1-0, Jordi Alba played a low cross into the penalty area and Messi would get to the end of it and score to give Inter Miami the 2-0 lead. The Argentine now has 20 goals this season for Inter Miami.

Rodrigo De Paul would also get an assist. Inter Miami were awarded a corner kick and it was De Paul’s cross which found Ian Fray and he would score a header.

Mateo Silvetti, who joined Inter Miami in August from Newell’s Old Boys would be substituted into the match.

Enzo Barrenechea scored for Benfica in their 3-2 loss against Qarabac FC.

Barrenechea got his first goal in the Champions League for Benfica in a match which Benfica would go on to lose. With the score at 0-0, Benfica were awarded a corner kick.

A cross into the penalty area found Barrenechea and the Argentine would score to give Benfica the 1-0 lead. Benfica would take a 2-0 lead but would allow three goals and lose the match.

Nicolás Otamendi would start the match for Benfica while Gianluca Prestianni would be substituted into the game.
