Argentina at U20 Toulon tournament with France, Panama, Saudi Arabia

Argentina have been placed in Group A at the U20 Toulon tournament.

The U23 tournament will, as tradition holds, be played in France. Argentina have been drawn in Group A with hosts France, along with Panama and Saudi Arabia.

It has been 13 years since Argentina last took part in the tournament. They have participated nine times, having won it twice. Here is Argentina’s record:

In terms of awards, four players have won the best player award.

Juan Roman RIQUELME (1998), Guillermo PEREYRA (1999), Javier MASCHERANO (2003), Diego BUONANOTTE (2009)

For the third best player award, in 1998 it was Diego Quintana and in 2009 it was Ever Banega. German Herrera in 2003 and Diego Buonanotte in 2009 had previously won the top scorer award.

Diego Saja in 1999 and Agustin Marchesin in 2009 won the best goalkeeper.

Group B: Mexico, Ghana, Venezuela, Indonesia

Group C: Algeria, Colombia, Japan, Comoros

It will take place between 29 May and 12 June. For Argentina, here are the matches:

Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia – May 29
Argentina vs. Panama – June 1
Argentina vs. France – June 6

Javier Mascherano, current coach of the U20 Argentina national team can use this tournament to prepare for the 2023 Sudamericana and the 2023 U20 FIFA World Cup.

Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United, Matias Soule of Juventus and Luka Romero of Lazio are players that are eligible for the team.

Cristian Romero was named as the Man of the Match in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 win vs. Leicester City.

Romero continues to impress and do well with Tottenham Hotspur. Since moving to the club, he has often been one of the best players on the pitch.

Per SudAnalytics, Romero is the player who has won the most defensive duels per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. He has won 6.92 per 90 minutes.

Lautaro Martínez scored for Inter while Ignacio Pussetto scored for Udinese in Inter’s 2-1 win.

Martínez has reached 21 goals this season for Inter, with 17 of them coming in the league. Inter were awarded a penalty which was taken by Lautaro. His penalty hit the post but Lautaro would score on the rebound to give Inter the 2-0 lead.

Ignacio Pussetto would get the goal for Udinese. It was a free kick for Udinese which was saved by the goalkeeper and the rebound would fall to Pussetto as he would score.

Alexis Mac Allister missed and scored a penalty for Brighton in their 3-0 win vs. Wolves.

Mac Allister had a match which started off not well but ended great. Brighton were awarded a penalty and it was Mac Allister who stepped up to take it as the goalkeeper guessed the right way and his effort hit the post.

Brighton were awarded a second penalty and once more int was Mac Allister to take it. The Argentine went to the same side but higher and scored.

The 23 year old is now on five league goals this season.

Gonzalo Escalante scores for Alavés in 2-1 win vs. Villarreal

Gonzalo Escalante scored for Alavés as they won 2-1 vs. Villarreal.

Escalante scored the second goal of the match for Alavés as a low pass into the penalty area found the Argentine and he would score to double their advantage. He has now reached four league goals this season.

Juan Foyth and Gio Lo Celso both came on as substitutes for Villarreal as they were rested for the Champions League match vs. Liverpool. Gero Rulli on the bench.
