Argentina fixtures confirmed for January, February World Cup qualifiers

The fixtures have been confirmed for the January and February World Cup qualifying matches as Argentina will play twice.

Argentina, who have already qualified for the 2022 World Cup, play two World Cup qualifying matches at the start of the new year. Lionel Scaloni’s team will play their first match of 2022 away against Chile on January 27 in Calama. The match in Calama would be in the desert at an elevation of 2,260 meters. The match will be at 9:15 pm local time.

The Copa America champions will play a second match on February 1 against Colombia but at home. While the official announcement has the match played in Buenos Aires, there are strong reports that will instead be played in Cordoba. That match will be at 8:30 pm local time.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni and River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo are both nominated for the best coach in South America award.

The award is given by Uruguayan newspaper El País where there are two other Argentine coaches that have been nominated. Along with Scaloni and Gallardo, there’s Ecuadorian national team coach Gustavo Alfaro and Juan Pablo Vojvoda of Fortaleza that are among the eight nominees.

Lionel Scaloni won the Copa America as he coached Argentina to their first trophy in 28 years. In addition, his team is already qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

Marcelo Gallardo has won the award the last three years and would be the first coach to win it four years in a row. He won the Argentina Supercopa, the league and the Trofeo de Campeones with River Plate.

Molina has now scored three goals in thr league this season for Udinese, his second in three matches. With Udinese leading 2-0, the ball fell to the 23 year old right back who score from the edge of the penalty area to give Udinese the 3-0 lead.

The Argentine has started in all seven of the Argentina national team’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Lautaro Martinez scored for Inter in their 5-0 win vs. Salernitana.

Martinez now has six goals in his last five league matches for Inter. It was 3-0 for Inter when the ball would fall to Lautaro inside the penalty area and he would score with his strike from close range.

The Argentine has 11 goals in 16 matches in the league this season, six less than the 17 he finished with last season.

Marcos Acuña, Lucas Ocampos and Gonzalo Montiel injured for Sevilla

Marcos Acuña, Gonzalo Montiel and Lucas Ocampos all left the match injured for Sevilla.

All three players finished the match injured, including Ocampos who scored the second goal in their 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid. Gonzalo Montiel was substitutes off injured but no details have been given regarding the injury.

Acuña was the second of the three players to be taken out of the match. He was substituted in and replaced after 30 minutes as he received a knock.

Ocampos would score the second goal of the match but would be taken out on a stretcher due to a head injury. Sevilla haven’t released any details regarding any of the injuries.
