Lionel Messi scores incredible goal for FC Barcelona in 1-1 draw vs. PSG

Lionel Messi scored one of the best strikes of his career for FC Barcelona in their 1-1 draw vs. PSG.

Messi showed that he can still strike the ball as well as anyone in the world as he netted scored his 25th goal of the season, leaving him six behind his tally of last season. PSG took a commanding 4-1 lead going into the second match in Paris and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

Despite Barcelona actually having most of the chances and being unlucky to fall behind, they needed a miracle for a comeback. And a miracle they could have gotten. Messi would receive the ball well outside of the penalty area and a thunderous left footed shot beat goalkeeper Navas to draw Barcelona level.

He could have made it 2-1 going into half time as Koeman’s team were awarded a penalty kick. Up stepped Messi who had his penalty saved. Yet despite the miss, Messi had a great game.

Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi both started for Mauricio Pochettino’s men while Angel Di Maria was brought on as a substitute.

Four matches in this week’s Champions League, three of them involving Argentine players.

Paulo Dybala is still out injured and will not play as Juventus host FC Porto. However, for FC Porto, they will have Agustin Marchesin in goal as they take a 2-1 lead to Turin. What is guaranteed in this match is that one Argentine will be eliminated while the other will be continuing to the quarter finals with their team.

The second match on Tuesday is that of Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla. For the Spanish club, all three Argentine players will be available for them. After losing 3-2 in Sevilla, Lucas Ocampos, Marcos Acuna and Alejandro Papu Gomez will look to turn it around and get the win in Germany. No Argentine representatives for Dortmund which means there is a possibility that not one Argentine player makes it to the quarter finals from this draw.

The big Argentine clash on Wednesday will be to Mauricio Pochettino’s advantage. His PSG team have a 4-1 lead and receive a boost with Angel Di Maria back in the squad. He, along with Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi are heavy favorites to make it to the quarter finals as Lionel Messi will hope for another memorable come back.

The fourth and final advantage is that of Liverpool and RB Leipzig, but no Argentine players on either team.

Here are the matches for this week:

Tuesday:

Juventus (Paulo Dybala) vs. FC Porto (Agustín Marchesín)

Borussia Dortmund vs. Sevilla (Alejandro Papu Gomez. Lucas Ocampos and Marcos Acuña)

Wednesday:

PSG (Leandro Paredes, Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria, Mauricio Pochettino coach) vs. FC Barcelona (Lionel Messi)

Guido Carrillo scored the winner for Elche in their 2-1 victory vs. Sevilla.

Carrillo scored his third goal of the season to give Elche the three points. Elche were leading 1-0 and awarded a free kick. A cross sent into the penalty area found the Argentine who would head the ball as it would strike the post, cross the line but be cleared by the goalkeeper. Upon review, it was shown that the ball did cross the line and the goal would count.

Already 29 years of age, Carrillo has never been capped by the Argentina national team.

Along with Carrillo, Ivan Marcone and Lucas Boye would start the match for Elche. For Sevilla, both Lucas Ocampos and Alejandro Papu Gomez started the match.
