Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about the team and Gio Lo Celso.

Lionel Scaloni now has Argentina undefeated in their last 24 matches and had them playing very well in the 3-0 win vs. Uruguay. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what he had to say:

“Football has moments: When they gave us problems, we were able to resolve it and after that we managed to grow.

“The team played a good match, like they did against Paraguay for several minutes. Football is not only one moment: When the opponent attacks, you have to be strong and we knew how to do it. When the team can play, the truth is that it makes you want to watch.”

Scaloni also spoke about Gio Lo Celso. Here is what he had to say:

“Lo Celso has been with us since the fits day. We value his football a lot but we could never have him at his fullest, for one reason or another. For us or for any club in the world, he’s one of the better players.”

In regards to the team and the fans:

“The players feel identified with the people, with the shirt and that is good.”

He also spoke about the win:

“Up until the goal, it was a tremendously difficult match in which they closed very well. They complicated things with two plays from Suarez but it’s what we knew: It’s a team with a great back line and first class attackers.

“Before we got the goal, we had two situations where we could have unblocked the match but this team is very aware of the difficulties of playing the qualifiers. Patience is a virtue of this squad.”

Lautaro Martinez comments on the Argentina national team, the 3-0 win

Lautaro Martinez spoke about the Argentina national team and the 3-0 win.

Martinez started the match or Argentina and scored the third goal of the match in the 3-0 win against Uruguay. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what he had to say:

“The Copa America gave us a lot of strength to continue growing and to continue on the path we started: That of patience, that of the play and that of being protagonists. I believe on every pitch we play in, we will try to do that.”

“Beyond that Uruguay are a high class team, I believe we pressured, we played and we had the match that we wanted and we got the three points.

“We have had many matches where we played very good football for several minutes. I believe that today was very complete for the way we pressured the opponent. Now we have to continue working with a peace of mind for what is coming.

“We try to enjoy the time we are together, to give everything, to be responsible and to work to be prepared for what the coach asks.”

Regarding the fans:

“I think we have managed to get the people to join us, for them to be happy and for them wanting to see the national team. We feel that way and we are proud of that.”

He was also substituted off in the second half and was emotional on the bench:

“I thought of my family who were at the stadium, that’s why I got emotional. That is sacrifice, to leave many things aside. My family has always accompanied me and I always forever be grateful for that.”

Lionel Messi comments on Argentina win, Emiliano Martinez

Lionel Messi commented on Argentina’s 3-0 win vs. Uruguay while also talking about Emiliano Martinez.

Messi reached 80 goals with Argentina as he scored the first goal of the match and was the first to also speak to the media. Speaking after the 3-0 win, here is what he had to say:

“We played a great match, I think we are growing in terms of our play. We got used to having the ball. Today was a tough match and we had to win it. Everything turned out perfect.

“Uruguay waits for you and creates danger. Once we got the first goal, we started to find space and the goals appeared. It was important to win because we knew the results of the other teams. We have one game left and if we get 7 points, we are very good.”

In regards to Emiliano Martinez:

“Dibu (Emiliano) Martinez is fundamental. When they come to him, he always responds. He established himself in goal and we have one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”

He also spoke about the fans:

“The people are impressive. It’s more beautiful every time to live and enjoy this.”

Argentina play champagne football in 3-0 win vs. Uruguay, Lionel Messi reaches 80 goals

Argentina played champagne football in their 3-0 win vs. Uruguay with Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and Lautaro Martinez scoring.

The Copa America champions are now undefeated in 24 matches as the team played one of their best, if not their best match with coach Lionel Scaloni. It was Uruguay who nearly took the lead several times but Emiliano Martinez showed why he has been nominated for the best goalkeeper award.

An early chance for Uruguay fell to Luis Suarez but Martinez with a solid right hand denied Uruguay a goal. Uruguay would get another chance shortly after but once more Martinez kept Uruguay without a goal.

Emiliano Martinez with the save of the match, once more on a Luis Suarez opportunity. The ball fell to Suarez and his volley was saved by Martinez, a truly great save.

Gio Lo Celso nearly gave Argentina the 1-0 lead. Lautaro Martinez played a ball in to Lo Celso as he went around Muslera but with several Uruguayan players on the line, Lo Celso’s shot hit the crossbar.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Argentina. Messi played an outside of the foot cross from outside of the penalty area in to Nicolas Gonzalez but Gonzlez was unable to get to it as the ball went through Muslera for the goal.

Messi is now on 80 goals for Argentina as no other South American players has reached 80 goals.

Rodrigo De Paul, who had a man of the match performance, doubled Argentina’s lead. A loose ball inside the penalty area as De Paul got to it before everyone and his shot went in for the second goal.

At 2-0 going into half time, Lionel Messi, Gio Lo Celso and Rodrigo De Paul were toying with Uruguay, passing the ball and dribbling around them. Cristian Romero was outstanding in the first half and it went on for the entire match.

De Paul made a great run down the right wing as his pass fell to Messi. He was surrounded by several Uruguayan players and he passed the ball back to De Paul who would get an assist. Rodrigo De Paul would play a pass across the penalty area which fell to Lautaro Martinez and he scored to make it 3-0 for Argentina.

Scaloni made two changes, the first was Angel Di Maria for Rodrigo and the second had Lautaro Martinez replaced by Joaquin Correa. Argentina nearly scored another as Joaquin Correa had a chance from inside the penalty area but was unable to score.

Two more changes for Argentina as Exequiel Palacios was brought in for Leandro Parede and Julian Alvarez for Nicolas Gonzalez.

The Argentina starting eleven is out and Lautaro Martinez is back in the squad and will start alongside Lionel Messi.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has made a few changes from the last match. Nicolas Tagliafico comes in for the injured Marcos Acuña and Nicolas Gonzalez starts in place of Angel Di Maria.

Lautaro Martinez is fully fit and back in the squad, which means Joaquin Correa makes the bench. Here is the starting eleven:

Emiliano Martínez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; De Paul, Paredes, Lo Celso, Nicolas González; Messi and Lautaro Martinez

The players who don’t make the bench are Andrada, Acuña, Martínez Quarta, Lisandro Martínez, Foyth, Nico Domínguez and Lucas Alario.
