Ángel Di María will not start for Argentina vs. Australia in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
Di María will not be in the starting eleven for Argentina as coach Lionel Scaloni is set to go with another attacker. According to several reports out of the Argentine media, it will be Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez starting with another attacker.
The 34 year old started all three of Argentina’s group games at the World Cup but was substituted out due to discomfort against Poland. Tests revealed that he has a muscle overload with Lionel Scaloni also commenting on the situation.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni is expected to go with one of Ángel Correa or Papu Gómez to start in the Argentina attack. Paulo Dybala also has a chance to start.
ADM will not start. But he is avaliable to come from bench if needed.
As per Reuters: Brazilian soccer legend Pele is receiving palliative care after chemotherapy stopped having the expected results as he battles colon cancer, newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported on Saturday.
Brazil are our eternal rivals but on a human level it’s sad….
I’ve watched Australia’s highlights this WC. It won’t be an easy game for us. They play sensible football, fast and pretty clinical too, look at their goals. They scored in all last three games and won the last too like us.
There’re a reason teams in R16. We need to be extra cautious on Australia’s long shots and attack from flank
If they play like how they played last three games then they will get murdered. But there is always catch which team always change their style when they play against us.
I don’t expect Argentina to be complacent again, after the Saudi wake up call. I think both the coaching staff and the players will take all opponents seriously.
This is bad news for Scaloni. The most creative player in the team is out. Yes, for the last 14+ months he has been the most creative of the players in the team even though we have The Messi in our team. When opponent defence encircles Messi, Di Maria stands tall. He needs to be replaced by someone as creative otherwise we would be left with competing with Australia in terms of speed. Not sure if speed is our strongest forte. Dybala might be the natural next choice. A Correa can be another choice. But he has not been in as much form as Dybala has been at the club level.
I think Correa would start and Dybala might get a rotation in if we’re up by 2 goals by 60+ min.
Please No Papu, he is slow for this Australian squad
