Europa League Round of 16 preview: 15 Argentine players remain

The Europa League continues on Thursday with 15 Argentine players remaining.

In the Round of 16 matches, there are four early matches and four matches which will be played later in the day. In the early matches, Nicolás Capaldo and RB Salzburg host Paulo Dybala and AS Roma.

Arguably the biggest match of the day, FC Barcelona host Alejandro Garnacho and Manchester United. Lisandro Martínez will miss the first match due to suspension, as Garnacho has been included in the matchday squad.

Gerónimo Rulli and Ajax host Uninon Berlin while Shakhtar Donetsk host Rennes. The four late matches all involve Argentine players.

Gonzalo Montiel, Marcos Acuña, Erik Lamela and Lucas Ocampos at Sevilla host Walter Benítez and PSV. In Portugal, Mateo Tanlongo and Sporting host Midtjylland.

Leandro Paredes, Ángel Di María and Matías Soulé at Juventus host FC Nantes while Exequiel Palacios and Bayer Leverkusen host Monaco. Here are the matches involving Argentine players:

  1. I think the one mistake Scaloni made was to not call up Garnacho to the World Cup. If there was ever a time to do so it would have been this time, with a squad of 26. Even if he didn’t play. That would have cemented this kid as a player for Argentina NT. I would have called him up instead of Almada. This kid is an amazing prospect with a lot of talent, I hope Scaloni calls him up in March and gives him minutes on the pitch. We can’t lose this kid to Spain.

    • It’s all destiny. May be if garnacho was there in the squad and if he shines in that left flank means we would not have witnessed the di Maria magic from that left flank.

    • We’re still crying about this? Mistake? How can it possibly be a mistake if we won it? No player is bigger than Argentina or the team. We still have a lot of time to cement him. If he ends up choosing Spain this fast then maybe it was good we had others with passion in the team and we will always have many talents in Argentina. I don’t think he will choose Spain anyway
