Ligue 1 have announced that they will be releasing players for September’s international matches.

While the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A will not allow their players to travel for September’s matches, Ligue 1 have taken a different approach. The statement, which was released on Thursday, states that the league will also stand with the clubs in ensuring that the players return in the best conditions.

Inter have announced that Joaquin Correa has signed with the club.

The Copa America winner with Argentina will be playing alongside Lautaro Martinez at Inter. It had been reported for several weeks that the reigning Serie A champions were looking to try and sign him.

Details of the transfer were made official by Lazio to their Italian stock exchange, via TuttoMercatoWeb. Per the statement, the transfer would cost a minimum of €30 million and that could go to €31 million.

It would be €5 million for a loan, with a possible €1 million pending on sporting results. And another €25 million at the end as the club have an obligation to buy pending unnamed conditions.

Joaquin Correa has signed a contract keeping him with Inter until June 30, 2025.

Serie A to not release players for September’s World Cup qualifiers

With the Premier League and La Liga both announcing that they will not be releasing players for September’s World Cup qualifiers, Serie A has now released a statement.

To go along with the other two leagues, Serie A will not be allowing their players to travel to countries which are red listed. This coming after FIFA president Infantino urged the leagues to release the players.

For Argentina, it would mean they would be without Juan Musso, Nahuel Molina, Martinez Quarta, Nico Dominguez, J. Correa, Nicolas Gonzalez, Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala as they play in Serie A. This would be in addition to Gerónimo Rulli, Gonzalo Montiel, Germán Pezzella, Juan Foyth, Marcos Acuña, Rodrigo De Paul, Guido Rodríguez, Papu Gómez and Ángel Correa, who play in La Liga. Furthermore, Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero, Gio Lo Celso and Emiliano Buendia play in the Premier League.

FIFA president Infantino urges Premier League, La Liga clubs to release players

FIFA president Infantino has released a statement urging Premier League and La Liga clubs to release their players for September’s international matches.

Both the Premier League and La Liga announced on Tuesday that they would not be releasing players who must travel to “red-zones” for September’s international break. This would block all South American players from travelling to South America to take part in September’s World Cup qualifiers.

However, FIFA president Infantino stated that he would like the players to be released. The statement, which was released on FIFA.com, is as follows:

“We have faced global problems together in the past and must continue to do so in the future. The release of players in the upcoming international windows is a matter of great urgency and importance. I am grateful for the support and cooperation from many stakeholders in the game during this challenging period.

I am calling on a show of solidarity from every member association, every league, and every club, to do what is both right and fair for the global game. Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world.

On the issue of quarantine restrictions in England, for players returning from red-list countries, I have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appealed for the necessary support, in particular, so players are not deprived of the opportunity of representing their countries in qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup™, which is one of the ultimate honours for a professional footballer. I have suggested that an approach similar to that adopted by the UK government for the final stages of the EURO 2020 be implemented for the upcoming international matches.

Together we have shown solidarity and unity in the fight against COVID-19. Now, I am urging everyone to ensure the release of international players for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.”

As it stands, should the Premier League and La Liga not release the players, Argentina would lose Gerónimo Rulli, Gonzalo Montiel, Germán Pezzella, Juan Foyth, Marcos Acuña, Rodrigo De Paul, Guido Rodríguez, Papu Gómez and Ángel Correa from La Liga. This, along with Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero, Gio Lo Celso and Emiliano Buendia of the Premier League.
