Lionel Messi is a finalist for the Best Player and best goal, the Puskas, award.

Not for the first time and probably not for the last time in his illustrious career, Lionel Messi is a finalist for the Best Player award. Messi makes the top 3 alongside Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool and the Netherlands as well as Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus and Portugal.

Messi is also nominated for one more award. The Puskas award is given to the player with the best goal of the calendar year. Messi’s lovely rainbow chip goal for Barcelona vs. Real Betis is up against Juan Quintero’s free kick for River Plate vs. Racing Club and Daniel Zsori’s goal for Debrecen vs. Ferencvaros.

Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham makes final 3 for The Best Men’s Coach

Mauricio Pochettino has made the final 3 for The Best Men’s Coach award.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager has made the final 3 alongside Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool. There were initially three Argentina coaches in the top 10 coach’s. Along with Pochettino there was Marcelo Gallardo of River Plate and Ricardo Gareca of Peru.

Nicolas Otamendi, Marcos Rojo, Manuel Lanzini, more Argentina players arrive to training

Several Argentina players have arrived in Los Angeles and started training ahead of the friendly games this month.

Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina team in Los Angeles are beginning to arrive as preparation is already under way for the matches against Chile and Mexico. As we reported earlier, Lucas Ocampos of Sevilla will not be participating due to injury.

The players who are already in the United States are Nicolas Otamendi, Marcos Rojo, Manuel Lanzini, Roberto Pereyra, Nicolas Tagliafico, Adolfo Gaich, Guido Rodriguez, Matias Zaracho, Leonardo Balerdi, Nicolas Dominguez and Marcos Acuna.

They all did some exercises in the gym.

 

Lucas Ocampos of Sevilla out of Argentina team due to injury

Lucas Ocampos will not be joining the Argentina national team due to injury.

One of Lionel Scaloni’s surprise inclusions into the Argentina squad, Lucas Ocampos has had to drop out of the team due to a muscular problem. Still only 25 years old and now with Spanish club Sevilla, Ocampos has yet to play for the senior Argentina team.

 

Mauro Icardi heading to PSG on loan, €70 million option

Mauro Icardi is set to join PSG on loan before the end of today’s transfer deadline.

The Argentina striker finally looks to be leaving Inter, who have made it clear that they no longer want him at the club. Per Sky Sports, Icardi will be joining the Ligue 1 champions on loan with an option to buy for €70 million.

Icardi joined Inter back in 2013 where he quickly established himself as their main striker. He would even go on to become the club’s captain but off the pitch problems appeared to have lead him out of the club.
