Joaquin CORREA steals point for Sevilla against Liverpool

Joaquin CORREA drew Sevilla level in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The team from Merseyside made their return to the Champions League but it didn’t go exactly as planned. After falling behind to a goal, Liverpool drew level and then took the lead. With a 2-1 command on the game, the home side were awarded a penalty kick and a chance to put the match away. Up stepped the Brazilian FIRMINO but his penalty hit the post.

Fast forward to the second half and we get Joaquin CORREA running at the end of a ball in the Liverpool penalty area and he slots the ball passed the goalkeeper for Sevilla’s second of the match.

CORREA wasn’t the only man from Argentina to score in the Champions League this week with Lionel MESSI and Sergio AGUERO both finding the back of the net.

Kun AGUERO scores for Manchester City against Feyenoord

Sergio Kun AGUERO scored for Manchester City in their 4-0 crushing of Feyenoord.

After scoring two goals and setting one up on Tuesday, it was time for Lionel MESSI’s close friend Sergio AGUERO to get on the scoresheet in the Champions League. The club from Manchester absolutely ran riot in the Netherlands, picking up 3 points in their 4-0 win. Kun AGUERO scored in the 10th minute after driving into the area and half volleying in a shot in from the right hand side.

The goal was AGUERO’s 50th in European club competitions (including his time in Spain with Atletico Madrid) in 84 UEFA matches. That brings his tally up to three goals in five matches in all competitions this season.

Lionel MESSI scores and assists against Juventus

It was the Lionel MESSI show for Barcelona against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.

Two goals an one assist against Juventus, not a bad night at the office for the world’s best player. Some were calling it revenge other were calling it the turn of a new season, call it what you want, MESSI was the star of the show.

Remarkable to think that Lionel had never scored against BUFFON, after all, he has played against the great goalkeeper a few times. But this time, Leo finally broke the curse. A great one-two with Luis SUAREZ and a precise surgical finish from the little man right before half time ensured that his team would go into the dressing room a goal to the goods.

A clinical run down the right hand side in the second half, a pass which was meant to SUAREZ but landed to RAKITIC and it was 2-0 for the Catalans. Ernesto VALVERDE’s men got the third after another MESSI run as his shot went right but BUFFON was going left. A 3-0 win meant they go joint top of the table along with Marcos ACUNA’s Sporting Lisbon in their group.

Two other Argentinians, Paulo DYBALA and Gonzalo HIGUAIN (who was left isolated up front alone but did not look too mobile when he was on the ball) started the match for the Serie A league winners.

CONMEBOL approve Argentina’s Bombonera proposal

31

CONMEBOL have approved the idea of playing at La Bombonera.

As we reported last week, the Argentina FA were going to submit a bid to FIFA and CONMEBOL regarding their World Cup Qualifying match next month. The idea would be that the AFA would bid to get their match against Peru to be played at Boca’s La Bombonera. The bid has since been submitted and it has reportedly been approved.

With the green light coming from South America, there’s only missing FIFA given the go and the decision will then be in the AFA’s hands. At the moment, the venue of the match remains unknown.
