Edgardo BAUZA’s assistant, Jose DI LEO, has revealed two names from the local league in Argentina which might get called-up.
Argentina’s World Cup Qualifying campaign continues next month and two names have already been mentioned. Just like Lucas ALARIO from River Plate, there’s likely to be more new names in the list. Here’s what BAUZA’s assistant had to say:
“We’ve been watching MARCONE and ASCACIBAR. Everyone has a chance.”
MARCONE’s a midfielder of current league champions Lanus while ASCACIBAR was part of Argentina’s Olympic team.
Mauro ICARDI scored twice on Sunday and Ezequiel GARAY scored for Valencia.
Mauro ICARDI scored both goals for Inter as they came back from being a goal down to win 2-1 against Pescara. The first goal was a header off an Ever BANEGA cross to tie things up. The second was also from the area but a calm finish from close range. Here’s what ICARDI had to say regarding the win:
“It’s not down to my goals, it’s down to the whole team. Everyone has a role to play out there. Scoring goals is part of my job and I always try my best. We fought right until the end, because we always want to win. We worked really well as a team today. We created a lot of chances, but we couldn’t hit the back of the net. I’m happy to have scored two goals.”
“When you try to really play football, you might be hurt on the counter attack. In the first half, we spent the whole 45 minutes in their half of the pitch, and we tried to do the same in the second half.”
“We’re doing what the boss tells us. We played with great intensity today, pressing high and I think all this work was what earned us the win.”
About who he dedicates the win to: “To my family and all those who always support me.”
About playing Juventus next week: “They’ve won the last few league titles. They’ve made reinforcements, but so have we. We’ll see what happens. We’ll go into the game to win, as we always do.”
Ezequiel GARAY scored on his debut for Valencia in their 3-2 loss to Real Betis. With the score at 2-1 for Betis, GARAY pounced off a free ball in the area and score to tie it up. Valencia were playing with 10 men after team captain Enzo PEREZ was given a second yellow card. Here’s what PEREZ had to say about getting sent off:
“I have said I am sorry to the coaching staff and my teammates. To be captain it means that you have more responsibility and you need to give an example which I did not do today. I let down the team. Whenever I make a mistake I will come out and admit it. We didn’t deliver today and football is like that. There is nothing else that we can do but keep pushing forward and looking for the three points now away from home.”
Hernan BARCOS spoke about Lionel MESSI and the Argentina National Team.
Hernan BARCOS, who played 4 matches with Argentina under Alejandro SABELLA, commented on Lionel MESSI and how if he was playing next to him, he would score 50 goals a year. Here’s what the Velez man had to say:
“He does tremendous things. He’s incredible. With MESSI next to me, I’d score 50 goals a year.”
“With BAUZA, it’s clear that the door is open, it’s a different picture because he gives the chance for everyone. It fills me with more enthusiasm and excitement.”
About how this would be a different experience to his first time with the team: “Obviously it would be different and a new experience. When I was called-up, it was a surprise because I wasn’t expecting it. When you’re on the team, you never want to leave.”
Wanchope ABILA, currently at Cruzeiro, has spoken about the Argentina National Team.
The former Huracan forward is currently playing with Cruziero in Brazil and so far has managed 6 goals in 9 matches for his club. Speaking to the media, here’s what he had to say about wanting to be called-up to the National Team.
“ALARIO and PRATTO were called-up because they were doing things well. The new call-ups are good for who are competing for that position (forward position). If called-up, great. If not, I’ll continue donig the same thing.”
Gonzalo HIGUAIN and Angel CORREA were the two Argentine goalscorers in Europe on Saturday.
Gonzalo HIGUAIN is living up to his price tag for Juventus as he scored twice in their 3-1 win against Sassuolo. Paulo DYBALA had an assist on the first goal while the second was a volley from inside the area.
Angel CORREA got off the mark for the season in Atletico’s 4-0 dismantling of Celta.
Nicolas OTAMENDI had a monster performance for Manchester City in their 2-1 win of the Manchester derby. Pablo ZABALETA came on for the last few minutes of the match. Manchester City coach Pep GUARDIOLA praised OTAMENDI after the match saying:
“People see Otamendi and think he’s just a character in the air heading but today he gave a lesson with the ball.”
