Gastón Ávila joins Ajax for €12.5 million

Gastón Ávila has joined Ajax for a fee of €12.5 million from Royal Antwerp.

Ávila has put pen to paper on a five year deal with the club as he will stay with Aajx until June 30, 2028. The initial deal is for a fee of €12.5 million but can increase to a maximum of €14.5 million through variables.

Ajax have confirmed that the 21 year old left back will wear the number 30 shirt.

Marcos Acuña has muscular discomfort and is a doubt for the World Cup qualifiers.

Acuña will undergo tests to his right hamstring on Wednesday. Sevilla stated that he will have scans done to see the extent of his discomfort. The 31 year old has been linked with a move to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Argentina national team play two World Cup qualifying matches in September, with the first one on September 7 against Ecuador.

Erik Lamela scored his first goal of the season for Sevilla in their 4-3 loss vs. Alaves.

Lamela has started his season with a goal with Lucas Ocampos getting the assist. With the score at 1-1, Ocampos would pass the ball to Lamela who was on the edge of the penalty area and he would curl one into the side of the goal to give Sevilla the 2-1 lead.

Marcos Acuña also started the match with Sevilla in what could be his last match for the club as reports have him set to join Aston Villa in the Premier League. Gonzalo Montiel, who will reportedly be joining Nottingham Forest, was not part of the team.

Gastón Ávila is set to join Ajax from Royal Antwerp.

Ávila is expected to be joining the Dutch giants from Royal Antwerp in Belgium. According to Mike Verweij, he will be joining Ajax for €12.5 million. The 21 year old made the jump over to Europe last year from Boca Juniors.

The defender has yet to be capped or called up to the Argentina national team.

Sergio Romero to be called up to the Argentina national team

Sergio Romero is expected to be called back to the Argentina national team.

Romero is set to be included in the Argentina national team for the September World Cup qualifying matches. According to Fernando Czyz, Romero will be one of the backup goalkeepers in the team.

The Argentine has been in great form since joining Boca Juniors and could be the third choice goalkeeper for the September matches. The 36 year old goalkeeper was the starting goalkeeper for Argentina when they made the final of the 2014 World Cup and the hero in the semi final penalty shootout against the Netherlands that year.

He has played 96 matches for Argentina, winning the U20 World Cup and Olympic gold. Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina national team play their first two World Cup qualifying matches next month.

The first is at home against Ecuador on September 7 and the second is on September 12 away vs. Bolivia.
