Rodrigo De Paul spoke about Argentina at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

De Paul commented on the World Cup draw and the World Cup with the draw just under two weeks away. The Argentine spoke about Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero while also talking about Brazil and the World Cup qualifiers this month. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, here is what he had to say about the World Cup:

“In these types of tournaments, it’s not always the best that wins and the draw has a lot to do with it. If they are selected to play against strong national teams, even better. One is always attentive and even if they respected everyone, Argentina can play against anyone and play well. Why would we want to play them? If we can avoid them, better.

“It’s not that I want to play against someone in particular or not. I have no problem facing anyone but a good draw can make things much more accessible. To win the World Cup, everyone national team is difficult but if luck is on our side, it’s much better.

“I believe England or Germany, those kinds of national teams, they know how Argentina are right now: How long it has been without a loss, we just won the Copa America, that we have the best in the world. I don’t believe they want to face us.

“I don’t know if I would say that we are because if you start to analyze which national teams have which players, there are seven or eight that could be world champions. I believe that we will be at that level and hopefully we can meet the expectations that we have of ourselves and that the people have of us.”

Rodrigo De Paul comments on World Cup qualifiers, Brazil

Rodrigo De Paul commented on the South American World Cup qualifiers and playing against Brazil.

De Paul provided the assist at the 2021 Copa America final for the Ángel Di Maria goal and is regarded as a big game player for Argentina. Taking part in every match against Brazil since coach Lionel Scaloni took over as coach, Argentina will once more be playing Brazil in June.

The World Cup qualifier against Brazil has been postponed until June and coach Lionel Scaloni has previously stated that he would prefer to face teams from another continent. Rodrigo De Paul spoke about Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero but he was also asked about having to play Brazil once more. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, here is what he had to say:

“I don’t know if it is fair or not, I’m not someone to give an opinion about it. Brazil is always a super important rival, we have had to have played against them a lot of times recently. What Scaloni said is true, we could have used this time to have enjoyed playing another kind of opponent to see where we are but it doesn’t stop it from being an important match. And we are going to take it very seriously. If they decided that we have to play it, for us, playing these kinds of clasicos are nice and we are willing to play them, no problem.”

In regards to the two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Ecuador this month:

“It’s the last World Cup qualifiers and we want to finish it well. It wasn’t easy for anyone and finishing it without any losses would be incredible, although difficult. We are very excited to say goodbye to the fans against Venezuela at home and it will be two matches that we will take very seriously because they are the last qualifying matches and there will be very few matches left for the World Cup.”

The Argentine also spoke about the national team:

“We miss each other a lot when we are not with the Argentina national team. We try to talk, obviously we are always on Whatsapp or talking but it’s not the same. We want to see each other and ahve fun and obviously put on the Argentina national team shirt.

“Leo is the leader with the big ones like Nicolás Otamendi or Fideo (Ángel Di Maria) but I feel respected, supported. They make me feel important and that gives you confidence, valued in what you are doing. I feel very comfortable in the role I have within the Argentina national team, which does not have one specific name.”

Rodrigo De Paul speaks on Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero’s role with Argentina at Copa America

Rodrigo De Paul spoke about Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero’s role with the Argentina national team at the Copa America.

De Paul has been an integral part of the Argentina national team. The heart beat of the midfield, 27 year old has formed a great partnership with Lionel Messi on and off the pitch. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, De Paul was asked about Lionel Messi getting whistled at by PSG fans and what he is going through:

“He is super used to the responsibilities, the pressures. It’s a moment he has to go through because they are out of the Champions League but football is like that. He has to be proud for having won everything he won.

“The dynamics of this sport are that at times it gives you and at times it takes away. Coming to the Argentina national team will do him well, he will change his mind a bit. I know he is very plugged in to everything that is coming. I’m anxious to see him again, the last call-up, he wasn’t there. Although we write to each other, we call, I feel like having a mate with him, talking a bit and asking him how he is doing. Which is the most important thing.

“I can’t tell you much about what I think… It’s hard to understand but well… I don’t agree. People will have done it out of anger but without thinking. But a guy like Messi can never be whistled at, anywhere in the world or for any reason.

He gave a lot to the entire world and brought us joy, we have to be grateful. But to each “their own.”

The Argentine was also asked about Sergio Agüero:

“Kun is one of us. We love him and it made us happy to know that he will be there in Qatar. We await him with open arms and we are happy about the decision made.

“He was part of it all and he helped us a lot. The last Copa, he enjoyed it a lot and from a place where he was not used to much because he’s someone who during 20 years scored a million goals and played every match. He had another role, he advised us a lot and he spoke a lot with Lautaro (Martínez) and Julián (Álvarez).”
