The farewell of Valentín Castellanos from the MLS

Although it is not official yet, rumors are that Valentín Castellanos will continue his career in Girona FC of Spain. Taty would have played his last game with New York City FC this Saturday, where he received a standing ovation from the fans.

In the 2-0 win vs. Inter Miami, the 23-year-old player was substituted off in the second half, when his teammates and the NYCFC fans applauded him in an emotional farewell. Castellanos was also chosen as the MVP of the match.

The Argentine, ex Vélez Sarsfield player Maxi Móralez scored the first goal of the game. Later on, Héber, who had entered the field in replacement of Castellanos, made it 2-0 and had a tribute to the Argentine in his goal celebration.

The Argentine striker has become a legend in New York City FC and in the Major League Soccer. Currently being the scoring leader of this season’s league with 13 goals in 17 appearances, he was Marcelo Gallardo’s main target to become a River Plate player in February of this year. Taty was the MLS Golden Boot winner in 2021, the year in which he also won the MLS Cup with his team, scoring a goal in the final.

Verbal agreement between Corinthians and Argentinos Juniors for Fausto Vera

Argentinos Juniors have reportedly verbally closed the sale of Fausto Vera to Corinthians. Per Olé, the deal would round the $7.5 million for 70% of the Argentine, with Argentinos Juniors staying with 20%, and the player the remaining 10%. The 22-year-old has also been linked with Celtic and Genk.

The central midfielder has been a key player in Gabriel Milito’s team. At his young age, the Argentine became the captain of “el Bicho”, which is currently leading the Liga Profesional 2022. Now, his transfer to Corinthians is practically closed, a club where some Argentines like Carlos Tévez and Javier Mascherano have gone and then later had the chance to play in Europe.

Fausto Vera has represented the youth Argentina national team several times in different categories. He started his journey with the Albiceleste playing the Campeonato Sudamericano U-17 in 2017. Later on, he played with the U-20 in the COTIF tournament of 2018, the Campeonato Sudamericano of 2019, the World Cup of 2019 and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Also, he won the 2019 Juegos Panamericanos and the 2019 Preolímpico Sudamericano with
Argentina’s U-23.

Nicolás Tagliafico has signed with Olympique Lyonnais.

Tagliafico has joined Olympique Lyonnais, signing a contract with the club until 2025. The 29 year old left back has joined them from Ajax for a fee of €4.2 million.

The Argentine spent four years with Ajax, making over 150 appearances and winning three league titles. With the Argentina national team, he has won the Copa America and the Finalissima.

Javier Mascherano names Argentina U20 team for COTIF tournament

Javier Mascherano has named his Argentina U20 team for the COTIF tournament.

Mascherano will be coaching in his second tournament in charge of the Argentina U20 national team. After finishing fifth in the Toulon tournament last month, he will now coach at the COTIF tournament in Spain.

With several of the European based players excluded for the COTIF tournament, Mascherano has still called up Nicolas Paz of Real Madrid, Rafael Pfauser of SC Freiburg and Alvaro Killane of U.D. Las Palmas. Here is the team which he has selected:

Paulo Dybala has broken Cristiano Ronaldo’s shirt sales record with AS Roma.

Dybala has joined AS Roma and many purchased his shirt. According to Ole Clarin, Dybala broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of selling the most shirts in one day, after he had joined Juventus.

The Argentine now holds the record for most jerseys sold in Italy in one day. Still only 28 years old, Dybala signed with AS Roma earlier this week, joining them as a free agent.
