Franco Carboni joins Cagliari on loan from Inter

Franco Carboni has joined Cagliari on loan from Inter until next year.

Carboni will be playing with Cagliari next season. Cagliari have announced that they have signed the 19 year old left back on loan until June 30, 2023 with an option to buy.

The Argentine has represented the Argentina U20 team at youth level, most recently at the Toulon tournament.

Ángel Di María has signed with Juventus and spoke at a press conference on Monday about the World Cup and Leandro Paredes.

Di María has signed with one of the biggest clubs in Italy following a stint with one of the biggest clubs in France. The Argentine spoke about joining Juventus. Quotes courtesy of Juventus and Forza Juventus, here is what he had to say:

“I am delighted to be here and to be able to wear this shirt. Joining this club is fantastic, my family and I have been welcomed with great affection. I thank you all.

“The same Di Maria as always has arrived, who wants to win at all costs, who hates to lose and wants to be a champion: I think Juve chose me for this. The most important thing will be to work hard and I will try to do my best.”

In regards to the Argentina national team and the World Cup:

“My head is now solely and exclusively at Juve. I came here to win and work with this great club, we will think about the national team when the time comes to think about it. I want to win with Juventus.

“The World Cup is one of the best experiences for a player, but it is essential to have your head focused on the present. I repeat, I will always do my best for Juve. I always give my best to every new beginning and it will be the same here.”

On if he spoke to Leandro Paredes:

“If Paredes asked me something about the Juve world? We are very friends, but we talk about other things.”

About joining Juventus:

“If an important team like Juve is looking for you, it is almost impossible to say no. They waited patiently for the end of my contract, I really wanted to come here. I was calm with my family, and the right moment came.

“I chose Juve because they are the most important club in Italy and have all the credentials to be able to win. I know it’s a strong team and I want to be part of this team. If they have looked for me, it means that they believe me to be up to it.

“I have a good relationship with Gianluigi Buffon. I also talked to him when I signed the contract. He wanted me to come to Juve and I think being here is very nice. I am calm and I will do my best to help Juventus win.

“Juve is Juve, they have won many titles and they are a great club that now has a great desire to return to the highest levels. I want to make this happen. It will be important to form a united group!

“Everyone welcomed me well and already make me feel like one of them and this is a beautiful thing that struck me right away. It was something that I had anticipated and now I am living it with great pleasure.”

Regarding this year and his role:

“In football, everything changes quickly, everything with Juve went very well from the first contacts. Now let’s think about this year, let’s try to win as much as possible and then the time will come to think about the future.

Argentina goalkeepers, defenders in the Premier League

Argentina will have between 10 and 12 players in the Premier League this season as we talk about their chances of making the World Cup and their history with the Argentina national team.

There will be three Argentine goalkeepers and two defenders in England next season. Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez of Aston Villa, Paulo Gazzaniga of Fulham and Willy Caballero of Southampton are the three goalkeepers.

The two defenders are Cristian “Cuti” Romero and Federico Fernandez. While Lisandro Martínez might end up playing in the Premier League, he is not yet counted.

For Emiliano Martínez, he has kept 11 clean sheets and allowed five goals in 16 matches with the Argentina national team. With Aston Villa last season in the Premier League, he also kept 11 clean sheets and allowed 48 goals in 36 matches.

Paulo Gazzaniga is back in the Premier League. He played and won the Championship last sesaon with Fulham, keeping three clean sheets and allowing 17 goals in 13 matches.

Gazzaniga has also represented the Argentina national team as he was called up by Lionel Scaloni. He played only one match and it was against Mexico where he kept a clean sheet.

Willy Caballero is the only Argentine goalkeeper in the Premier League who has played at a World Cup. At 40 years of age, he has played five matches for Argentina, keeping two clean sheets and allowing nine goals.

Caballero has won the U20 World Cup back in 2001 with Argentina and won Olympic gold in 2004 in Athens. He has not played for Argentina since the last World Cup.

With Southampton in the Premier League last season, Caballero played two matches and allowed five goals.

Cristian “Cuti” Romero is still only 24 years old and has played 11 matches with Argentina, helping keep nine clean sheets and scored a goal. Like Martinez, he has won the Copa America and Finalissima.

In his first season with Tottenham Hotspur, he played 22 matches in the league, helping keep seven clean sheets and even scoring one goal.

Federico Federico is still only 33 years old and was part of the Argentina team which made the 2014 World Cup final. Mostly paired with Ezekiel Garay, Federico played 32 matches for Argentina, helping keep 13 clean sheets and scoring one goal.

With Newcastle United last season in the Premier League, he played seven matches and helped keep one clean sheet.

Gio Lo Celso not in Antonio Conte’s plans for Tottenham Hotspur

Gio Lo Celso has been left out of Tottenham’s tour to South Korea as coach Antonio Conte will not take him into consideration for the pre-season with the squad. The Argentine will have to reportedly look for a new club.

In January of this year, the 26-year-old midfielder had joined Villareal on loan, where he reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals, gaining great performances. Now that he returned to the English club, Lo Celso would be one of the four Tottenham players that is not in Conte’s plans for the upcoming season, per Fabrizio Romano.

Julián Álvarez has been presented as a Manchester City player as he spoke about joining the club.

Álvarez was finally wore the blue colors of Manchester on Sunday as he spoke in front of a crowd. The 22 year old Argentine has made the transfer over from River Plate to Manchester City after signing his five and a half year contract earlier this year.

The forward is the latest Argentine to join the club, after legends like Sergio Agüero and Pablo Zabaleta wore the shirt. Speaking in front of the crowd where it was also announced that he will be wearing the number 19 shirt. Here is what he had to say:

“Manchester City has a lot of history with Argentinians before but I came here to create my own history, my own path.

“In Argentina we are used to interest from Europe. It’s our dream to play there because they are the best leagues and clubs.

“City is one of the best clubs. so I was very excited (when I learned of the move). I worked very hard and I am very excited to be here now.

“I can play in different positions. In the centre or in wings. I feel comfortable playing close to the box because it helps me score goals, but I like to assist my teammates.

“I want to play and contribute. I want to win trophies, the Premier League and Champions League. I’m going to give my best to adapt as soon as possible and contribute and play as soon as possible.

In regards to not wearing the number 9 shirt for City:

“To me the number doesn’t matter. I just want to play my game and I’m not worried which number I’m wearing.

“Number 19 is the number that I like, it was the birthday of my grandmother.

“Erling is a great player, scores a lot of goals and has been an important player at his other clubs.

“I can play in the middle and on the wings, I think I can be a good player here.”
