“With Messi, we are already winning 1-0. He is a football beast. It’s a team still in training. I would would Paredes from the start. Lautaro Martinez is still learning but I like him.”

Regarding Lionel Scaloni:

“For me, he is doing very well. At the least, what he likes in football doesn’t differ much from mine. He plays the way I like. For anyone who watches the national team, they play like my team used to play.”

Finally, Basile spoke about his health as he was recently in the hospital:

“The truth is that I didn’t suffer, I had no problems. I was in the hospital for 10 days and they did everything they had to do. Obviously it’s not nice being there but it went very well. I am vaccinated. I think that did me very well. The doctors told me I was well. I didn’t even have a fever.”

“I left my house a while ago, it was for moments like this.

“The truth is I have no words. We came here 40 days ago and we have been locked up. I think this has been the only national team that can’t see anybody. We are in a bubble, honestly, just with the coaching staff, those who clean, those responsible, we are a group of 70 people that came here for a dream.

“We said it the first day, we want to play the final and even better that we play against Brazil on their pitch.”

In regards to the match, here is what he had to say:

“We were ahead quickly but they played a great match, they gave it their all. Colombia played a good second half, we had chances to make it 2-1 and to close the game. They took us to penalties, they’re very strong. And this is a matter of luck, today it was my turn.”

He also spoke about Brazil and the final of the Copa America:

“They are a great team, they have been the candidates since the first day but we have a great coach and the best in the world, we are going to win it.”

“It was a difficult match, we deserved it, we went looking for it. At times it was difficult because we would give them the ball and they would attack.

“After that, we have Dibu (Emiliano Martinez) who is phenomenal, we knew he was going to stop. We know him, we know who he is and we are confident in him. He deserves it.”

In addition, Messi commented on what Neymar stated regarding Argentina and how he wanted Argentina to make the final with Brazil winning:

“We are both in the final, I Know Ney said it because on one side we are friends and he wants me to be there too. It will surely be very close and complicated. We are very excited, we reached the first goal which was to get to the final, to play all the matches and now we are even more excited than ever as we go for this Copa.”

Regarding the Copa America and the team:

“We are very excited, happy, personally, I want to play one more, what I want most is to win a title with the national team but beyond lfiting the cup or not, I think I enjoyed these difficult 45 days without seeing my family.

“SOme of these guys are dads and couldn’t be present the day their kids were born, which is the most important thing in life. It’s all sacrifice, it’s strength for the goal and now here we are.”
