Angel Correa comments on the World Cup with Argentina, Rodrigo De Paul

Angel Correa spoke about wanting to play a World Cup with the Agentina national team and Rodrigo De Paul.

Correa is in great form for Atletico and he is already working towards making the Argentina national team for the World Cup. Still only 26 years old, Correa was part of the Atletico Madrid team which won La Liga last season and part of the Argentina national team that won the Copa America. Speaking in an interview with AS, Correa commented on wanting to play in the 2022 World Cup:

“It’s clear. I didn’t have the opportunity of being at the 2018 World Cup and now I am back in the Argentina national team and we have qualified. It’s clear that I want it to happen because it would be the utmost being at the World Cup.

“I only try to always be prepared. I am well physically although it’s now complicated with all of the trops and all of the matches in such little time. That is what affects me the most as a player.

“It’s something I like, to compete with great players and great team mates and it’s something that motivates me a lot every day.”

In regards to the media not talking about him much:

“I try not to think about it, I’m not one to read the media or anything. I try to continue to grow as a football player because I still have a lot of things to leave.”

He also spoke about his Argentina and Atletico Madrid team mate Rodrigo De Paul:

“With the quality he has and the heart that he puts in every match and the training’s, it’s clear that if he continues like this, he could be here for many years and do great things at Atletico.”

Maxi Rodriguez announces retirement from football

Maxi Rodriguez has announced his retirement from football.

Rodriguez was part of some memorable moments in Argentine football history. The 40 year old announce his retirement from football on Friday with his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys being his last team.

Scorer of one of the greatest goals in World Cup history, Maxi scored for Argentina against Mexico at the 2006 World Cup in extra time. His other memorable moment came at the 2014 World Cup where he scored the penalty which took Argentina to the World Cup final.

Part of three World Cup teams for Argentina, Maxi was part of the U20 team which won the 2001 U20 World Cup. He played for Newell’s where he was part of their youth team and signed with Espanyol, spending three seasons at the club.

He would then join Atletico Madrid for five years and join Liverpool for two years. He would go back to Newell’s for five years before joining Peñarol and retiring with Newell’s Old Boys. He announced his retirement through Instagram as he posted an emotional video.

 

Argentina to play Italy in June at Wembley in London, England

Argentina is set to play Italy in June at Wembley in London, England.

It’s the Copa America champions against the Euro winners as Argentina will play Italy. The match was confirmed months ago but the venue was set to be announced. According to Gaston Edul, the match will be played at Wembley.

Per the tweet, Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni would also play one more friendly match against European teams during that month.

Jose Luis Palomino scored for Atalanta in their 3-3 draw vs. Young Boys.

Palomino scored Atalanta’s second goal in their 3-3 draw. With the score at 1-1, a cross was sent into the penalty area and the ball would fall to Palomino who was on the edge of the penalty area and his strike would beat the goalkeeper and give Atalanta the 2-1 lead.

Lionel Messi comments on Argentina, Copa America, World Cup

Lionel Messi commented on Argentina, winning the Copa America and the World Cup.

Messi spoke about the Argentina national team in an interview published on Tuesday. Speaking with Marca, here is what he had to say about 2021 with the Argentina national team:

“It was spectacular and incredible at the national level. I was able to achieve one of the goals that had cost me so much, which was the Copa America, because I had been very close several times but had not achieved it. We ended up accomplishing our goal of qualifying for the World Cup in a brilliant way. And now we want to go for more.”

He was also asked about what Argentina can achieve at the World Cup:

“We are doing very well now. Having won the Copa America helps a lot because the team works differently and is more confident. But we know that we still have a long way to go to be among the favourites. We will try to arrive in the best possible way to continue competing as we are doing in each game.”

In addition, Messi was asked if he would agree from now on an Argentina against Spain final at the World Cup:

“Obviously. With Spain or whoever. I would like to be in another final and achieve another goal. The enthusiasm and the dream is always there.”

During the interview, Messi would also discuss PSG and FC Barcelona.
