Argentina squad announced for World Cup qualifiers, Paulo Dybala included

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has announced his squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers and Paulo Dybala has been included.

Dybala is the big name inclusion as he has not been selected for the national team in three years. With the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Lucas Alario with knocks, Sergio Aguero out until October and Mauro Icardi out for 3-4 weeks, Scaloni has opted for the jewel from Juventus.

In addition, with goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin having undergone surgery on his knee, Geronimo Rulli of Villarreal has been included. Juan Foyth, who was part of the two World Cup qualifying matches prior to Argentina winning the Copa America, is also back in the team. Emiliano Buendia of Aston Villa is included after, like Foyth, he missed out on the Copa America.

The squad for the September qualifiers is very similar to that which won the Copa America but with some new additions.

PSG confirm Mauro Icardi out for 3-4 weeks, will miss Argentina matches

Mauro Icardi will miss 3-4 weeks for PSG, also ruling him out of the Argentina squad for September’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Icardi started the season off with two goals in just as many matches for PSG before injurying his shoulder on the weekend. With the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Lucas Alario not being fully fit and Sergio Aguero out until October, Icardi was reportedly going to be included in the Argentina team for the September matches.

However, PSG have confirmed that his shoulder injury which he sustained on Saturday will keep him out for three to four weeks.

Argentina play three World Cup qualifying matches in September. An away match vs. Venezuela on September 2 being the first one. After that comes a repeat of the Copa America final, away vs. Brazil on September 5 and the last one on September 9, at home vs. Bolivia.

Joaquin Correa has been in the news for a few weeks as a possible move away from Lazio remains a possibility.

Correa could be leaving Lazio with Inter as the possible destination as Lazio has reportedly lowered their price tag. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio have lowered their price tag from €40 to €35 million for the Argentina.

Per the report, Inter have offered a loan plus an obligation to buy for €30 million.

A Copa America winner with Argentina, Correa has been at the club since 2018 but a move to Inter would mean that we could see both Lautaro Martinez and Correa playing alongside each other at club level.

Angel Correa scores third goal of the season for Atletico in 1-0 win vs. Elche

Angel Correa cannot stop scoring as he managed his third goal of the season for Atletico Madrid in their 1-0 win vs. Elche.

Correa, who scored two goals in Atletico’s opening match of La Liga, added a third one today and once more, it was the match winner. With both Correa and Rodrigo De Paul in the starting eleven, the two Copa America winners with Argentine combined for the only goal of the match. He finished last season with 9 goals in the league.

Rodrigo De Paul provided a very similar assist to the one he gave Angel Di Maria in the final of the Copa America with Argentina. A cross from deep as the goalkeeper came out, Correa controlled it and he hit the ball with the outside of his foot for the goal.

Nehuen Perez was an unused substitute for Diego Simeone while Lucas Boye and Ivan Marcone started for Elche. Guido Carrillo was brought on for Elche as was Dario Benedetto who made his debut for the club.

Paulo Dybala and Roberto Pereyra score as Juventus draw 2-2 vs. Udinese

Paulo Dybala and Roberto Pereyra both scored for their clubs as Juventus drew 2-2 away vs. Udinese.

Dybala kicked off the season with a goal in the first three minutes. After a less than stellar performance last year, the 27 year old gave Juventus the early lead. A low pass into the penalty area found an on-running Dybala, who was Juventus captain for the match and his first touch ended with his first goal of the season. He finished last season with four goals in the league.

With Juventus leading 2-0, Udinese were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Roberto Pereyra and the Argentine made no mistake as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and scored. Nahuel Molina also started the match for Udinese as all three Argentine players took part in the 90 minutes.

It looked as if Juventus were about to steal the three points as Cristiano scored in injury time as he took his shirt off celebrating. However, VAR ruled the goal offside as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
