Lionel Messi along with Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo De Paul and Lautaro Martinez have been named in the IFFHS CONMEBOL Team of the Year.

The five Copa America champions with Argentina made the starting XI with Filipe Luis, Marquinhos, Mauricio Isla, Luis Diaz, Neymar and Gabiriel Barbosa making up the rest of the team. In addition, Julian Alvarez, who was also part of the Argentina team that won the Copa America makes the substitutes bench as does Ignacio Fernandez.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni was named as the coach of the year.

Former Argentina, Newcastle United man Fabricio Coloccini retires

Former Argentina and Newcastle United man Fabricio Coloccini has announced his retirement from football.

Fabricio Coloccini took to Instagram to announce that he will stop playing football at 39 years of age. The Argentine began his youth career with Argentinos Juniors before playing for Boca Juniors.

From there, the defender would sign with AC Milan but have several stints on loan at San Lorenzo, Alaves, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal. He would settle in Spain for four years at Deportivo La Coruña.

Following Deportivo, he would spend six years at Newcastle United in England. While with Newcastle, he would make the Premier League Team of the Year. After Newcastle, he would go back to Argentina and play with San Lorenzo before joining Aldosivi.

Coloccini would win the 2001 U20 World Cup with the Argentina, being part of a legendary team. In addition, he would win gold at the 2004 Olympics. With the Argentina national team, he would take part in the 2006 World Cup.

Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax being linked to Chelsea

Nicolas Tagliafico has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Tagliafico could be on his way out of Ajax. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have discussed the possibility of signing the 29 year old. In addition, Matteo Moretto of Sky Sports has stated that Tagliafico could leave in January.

In addition to Chelsea, Newcastle United are interested in signing the Argentine. However, the names of Lucas Digne and Sergino Dest are also being mentioned.

Bayern Munich II coach Martin Demichelis offered to coach Talleres in Argentina

Martin Demichelis has been offered to coach Talleres in Argentina.

Demichelis is currently managing in Germany as he coaches Bayern Munich II but he has received an offer to manage Talleres. According to Doble Amarilla, club president Andrés Fassi has spoken to Demichelis, asking him if he would like to coach them.

Per the report, “Micho” has asked them to give him until January 4 for an answer. The Argentine became coach of the Bayern Munich youth team back in 2019 where he has since held his spot.

Gio Lo Celso misses Tottenham Hotspur match due to injury precaution

Gio Lo Celso missed Tottenham’s last league match due to an injury precaution.

Lo Celso has not played for Tottenham since November 7 with him missing Tottenham’s 3-0 win vs. Crystal Palace due to a calf injury. This is not his first injury since arriving at the club as he has missed several matches due to fitness. The 25 year old has started only two league matches this season. Tottenham coach Antonio Conte spoke about Lo Celso’s injury following their win. Here is what he had to say:

“It is not a serious injury, after the game against West Ham the players that didn’t play had a little training and in this training he had a bit of fatigue in his calf but only for precaution we decided to wait, especially in this situation it is important to listen to the player.

“When you have a problem in your calf only the player can give you the right situation.”
