Adolfo GAICH scores twice as Argentina U20s beat Murcia at COTIF

Adolfo GAICH was the hero for the Argentina U20 team in their 2-0 win against Murcia at the COTIF tournament.

Lionel SCALONI’s boys are 2-0 at the tournament and after having picked up a resounding 4-0 win against Venezuela in their opening match, GAICH scored a brace in against Murcia.

The opening goal came in the 23rd minute after Alvaro BARREAL sent in a cross into the penalty area and GAICH got his first goal of the night through a powerful header. Shortly after, the two connected once more as BARREAL played a short pass into the area and all GAICH had to do was tap it into the net.

Argentina top Group A as they play second place Mauritania on Friday and last place in the group India on Sunday. Group B has Russia, Uruguay, Morocco, Qatar and Valencia.

Cesar Luis MENOTTI talks Lionel MESSI and Argentina National Team

32

Cesar Luis MENOTTI knows a thing or two about building a team and a winning team at that.

The World Cup winning coach defended Lionel MESSI and the rest of the Argentina squad saying they have given a lot to the team.

“Now, it’s much easier to say that it’s MESSI’s fault. Instead of criticizing him, we should think about if we would have qualified without him. It’s not his fault nor the fault of the players, they have given a lot these Argentina National Team players.

“If you have a roster of 20 players, you can invite MESSI, if he wants, if he’s well and has the desire to play… But you have to have support.”

MENOTTI stated that before even thinking about getting a coach, they should have to talk about a project. Here’s what he had to say:

“Even before (deciding) a coach, you have to talk about a project. If to talk to the players you have to take a plane, to go to Rome and after that somewhere else… It doesn’t help much. We have to have a working team. I had coaches everywhere in Argentina, it doesn’t have to be magic. You have to work, to move.”

Everton chasing Manchester United and Argentina’s Marcos ROJO

2

Per reports, Marcos ROJO is wanted by Everton.

The Manchester United defender’s future could be outside of Old Trafford as reports have him linked with Everton. Jose MOURINHO’s team are reportedly asking for £30 million pounds should ROJO leave the club.

Everton’s coach Marco SILVA was ROJO’s manager while the two were at Sporting Lisbon and was the coach when ROJO left to join United in 2014 £16 million. Marcos was left out of United’s pre-season tour of the United States due to a “physical problem”.

Now 28, ROJO signed a new contract in March which would keep him at United until 2021 with an option to keep him for an additional year. However, Everton appear to be the club the most interested in signing the Argentina defender even with the contract renewal.

Argentina pick up 4-0 win against Venezuela at U20 COTIF

Argentina’s U20 team managed a 4-0 win against Venezuela at the L’Alcudia COTIF tournament in Spain.

After a disastrous preparation behind the scenes due to a change of management, Lionel SCALONI took over the team and and an opening win can only do his side some good.

The opening goal game through Inter striker Facundo COLIDIO off a penalty kick and with the score at 1-0, the match only got better for SCALONI’s boys. Venezuelan Ignacio ANZOLA was sent off and from there Argentina made no mistakes.

ALVARO BARREAL of Velez made it 2-0 which was followed by Adolfo GAICH making it 3-0 for Argentina. The fourth goal came from Francesco LO CELSO (younger brother of PSG’s Giovani), a volley to the back post.

Up next for Argentina are Murcia on Tuesday.

Ignacio PIATTI scores for Montreal Impact against Tata’s Atlanta United

Ignacio PIATTI scored for Montreal Impact in their 2-1 loss to Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO’s Atlanta United.

In a game which was postponed due to rain and thunder, PIATTI netted his 11th goal of the season in 21 matches. The former San Lorenzo man received the ball inside the penalty area and a shot into the top corner of the near post pulled one back for Montreal. However, it wasn’t enough as Tata MARTINO’s men extended their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with 47 points.

Here’s Tito VILLALBA with a lovely nutmeg.

With all the supposed changes coming to the AFA and the Argentina National Team, maybe players like Ignacio PIATTI, Ezequiel BARCO (also of Atlanta United) or even Hector VILLALBA (who did start the match) should get a look at in the team?
