Nicolás Otamendi renews with Benfica

Nicolás Otamendi has renewed his contract with Benfica.

Otamendi will be staying with the club for another year. Benfica announced on Friday that Nicolás Otamendi has renewed with the club until 2026.

The 37 year old has been with the club since 2020, winning three trophies.

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano only Argentine coach left at Club World Cup

Javier Mascherano of Inter Miami is the only Argentine coach left at the Club World Cup.

Mascherano and Inter Miami will play in the Round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain after qualifying out of the group with two draws and one win.

In the same group, Argentine coach Martin Anselmi of FC Porto was eliminated in the group stages. Porto drew two matches and lost one match.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid were also eliminated in the group stages. A 4-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain, a 3-1 win against Seattle Sounders and a 1-0 win against Botafogo brought Atletico to six points in the group.

The two coaches managing Argentine clubs are both eliminated. Miguel Ángel Russo of Boca Juniors drew against Auckland City in Boca’s lasy match in the group.

Marcelo Gallardo and River Plate were elimimated after River’s 2-0 loss against Inter.

Leandro Paredes to join Boca Juniors from AS Roma

Leandro Pareses will join Boca Juniors from AS Roma.

Paredes is going to leave AS Roma to rejoin Boca Juniors. According to César Luis Merlo, Boca’s lawyers and Leandro’s lawyers are working on executing AS Roma’s €3.5 million clause.

The Argentine will sign on a three and a half year deal. The 30 year old came up through the Boca Juniors youth teams and was signed to the senior team from 2010 to 2015, spending two of those years on loan.

River Plate eliminated from Club World Cup after 2-0 loss vs. Inter

River Plate have been eliminated from the Club World Cup after their 2-0 loss against Inter.

The Argentine club lost their last match at the Club World Cup and are out of the tournament. A red card for Lucas Martínez Quarta and goals by Francesco Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni eliminated River Plate who finished the group on four points.

Both clubs from Argentina, Boca Juniors and River Plate, are eliminated. Lautaro Martínez and Valentín Carboni along with Inter finish first in the group ahead of Monterrey.

River Plate look to advance in Club World Cup vs. Inter

River Plate will look to advance in the Club World Cup as they play Inter on Wednesday.

The Argentine club leads Group E as they are tied on four points with Inter but lead due to a one goal difference. A draw or a win would have River Plate in the next round of the Club World Cup.

Lautaro Martínez has two goals in two matches for Inter, scoring against Monterrey in their 1-1 draw and against Urawa Reds in their 2-1 win.
