Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni held a training on Friday with Ángel Di María training separately from the team.

Lionel Scaloni tried out two players up front alongside Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez in training. Papu Gómez and Ángel Correa were the two players in attack.

Scaloni tried both Nahuel Molina and Gonzalo Montiel with Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi and Marcos Acuña. Scaloni also repeated the same three in midfield. According to TyC Sports, here were the players from training:

Emiliano Martínez; Molina/Montiel, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Marcos Acuña; Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister; Lionel Messi, Julián Álvarez and Papu Gómez/Ángel Correa.

Ángel Di María trained separately from the team. It remains to be seen if he will be able to start the match.

Argentina will play with the home kit vs. Australia in the Round of 16 at the World Cup.

Lionel Scaloni’s team wore the alternate purple kit vs. Poland in the 2-0 win but will play with the home kit in the next match. Argentina wore the home kit in the first two games against Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

Lionel Scaloni was at the press conference on Friday where he had spoken about Ángel Di María but also about the Round of 16 match and the use of VAR so far. Speaking about Australia, here is what he had to say:

“Australia is a good team, it’s 11 against 11 like they said yesterday. You have to put aside the theoretical favoritism and play the game. Our idea is to play like we did in the last games.

“Their form doesn’t surprise me, they are a good team with a tradition in World Cups and that makes it difficult.”

In regards to VAR:

“We lived it and it’s really difficult to digest, especially because it’s a very new thing and it’s implemented in a World Cup. It’s like that for everyone.”

About the fans from Bangladesh:

“We’re filled with pride that a country like Bangladesh supports us like that. We’re really thankful for all their love.”

During Argentina’s 2-0 win vs. Poland, Di María was substituted out and appeared to be in discomfort. Reports came out that he has a muscle overload. When asked about Ángel Di María, here is what he had to say:

“Yesterday was a day of recovery for most, that’s why yesterday’s training was to analyze Australia. This afternoon’s training will give us a clearer picture. After practice, we will decide the team, according to Ángel’s progress and other players. If he is okay, he will play.

“Huevo Acuña was substituted out because he had a yellow but he is fine.”
