Leandro PAREDES in Argentina training, preparation for Copa America

Leandro PAREDES was among the 11 players who trained on Wednesday as part of Argentina’s preparation for the Copa America.

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI had a few doubts in regards to his starting line-up for the opening game against Colombia but those are slowly disappearing. Leandro PAREDES and German PEZZELLA were both in the eleven in training. Here was the line-up:

ARMANI; SARAVIA, PEZZELLA, OTAMENDI, TAGLIAFICO; PAREDES, LO CELSO, Guido RODRIGUEZ, DI MARIA; MESSI, AGÜERO

  1. Why Marcelo Bielsa is great because through analysis he anticipates what situation will be faced that’s the difference between bielsista’s and all others.

We always get amused with gallardo’s success but main theme is he analyses and anticipates to take measures in advance that’s why brought a neuroscientist in his staff to get the action part of the measures ,which is carried by the players ,sorted out .
With the 2014/2006 generation bielsa would have won consecutive world cups.but it’s a pity he left long ago.

  2. Colombia briefs is little bit same with us. They almost likely selected their starting-XI, the last link they are yet to settle is the midfields. We have almost certainly 4-starter as Tagli-German-Nicolas-Renzo as well as their Tesillo-Davinson-Mina-Arias. For strikers our M.A.D will probably faced Muriel-Falcao-James.

Davinson is a future world-class defender with well-rounded defending skills. Combined with Mina, they are tough in battle of heights. Since we have disadvantage in aerial duels, i think the suitable ways to score is using quick build-up play with ground balls. Free-kicks also could be our trump card.

  3. Columbia will def park the bus, they didnt score in the last 5 games against us, so no need to overestimate them, Arg will win narrowly or a tight draw. 1:0, 2:1, 0:0 or 1:1, the draw is good for both teams Arg will score more against Paraguay and Qatar than Columbia. In the normal time only Brazil could beat ARG since 2007 in the Messi era on Copas. 14 wins 7 draws 1 loss and only 1 loss with Di Maria-Messi-Aguero in the starting 11. Its laughable for me some afraid of Uribe and Cuellar midfield, cmon man. If they will play the match of their life and wont make a mistake under the bus parking COL will win a point, nothing more.

    • “Its laughable for me some afraid of Uribe and Cuellar midfield, cmon man”

I suppose this is directed at me. It’s not really about the names. You play with pereyra and dimaria, then catching them in any kind of transition in front of your parked bus is so easy given their nature why even give opponents the chance.
Play the double mids, put depaul in, keep the game in front of you, use rodrigo’s ability to drive into the box, paredes to find his passing range, a little bit of messi magic combined with locelso, aguero’s finishing and the worst thing you come out with is a draw. Then hammer paraguay and qatar.

simple game plan. why use dimaria and risk opening everything up in the first half of the first game of the tournament with fancy stuff.

  4. Armani’s strength is his reflexes but we here in the NT want to build the game from back which is not his strength but last match I saw improvement on his passing and sweeping abilities thought he looked tense but we can expect once he learns the foot business he will be really good but probably he won’t get the time since Benitez and other good ones are already knocking the NT door.

    • Personally I don’t think any argentine goalkeeper is capable of building from back. Maybe gazzaniga since he trains at spurs. But really it is not a style of the super liga. And if your goalkeeper is not used to building from the back as his natural style every day of the season it is foolish to think he can do that in two weeks of camp training. Really it will be a setup to blame armani for any failure and i will feel bad for him.

  5. Apart from morroco and Venezuela match continuous improvement is evident but it would be plus if we had palacios and zaracho pair. But Paredes should at least try to anticipate the situation in advance that can improve his speed quite a bit.if we see lo Celso /palacios/ zaracho one thing is common “Anticipation” which transforms a player from good to great level.
One data scientist and phychiatrist with this coaching staff(remember scaloni completed coaching course from Spain) is more than enough to lift this team up.

One more thing yesterday saw the matches where Tata Martino were at the helm ,i was amused how fluid the team were back then. Biglia making through passes reminds the luxury Argentina had that time, but if this team get polished properly with u-20 and u-18 kids we can win 2022 and 2026 worldcup in succession.

      • Yes,and it’s really tough to complete it there, after his completion of the coaching course sampaoli picked him to join in the Sevilla setup and there was Juan Manuel Lilillo on the staff of sampaoli,So he definitely learnt some tricks to get the possession based play going.
It’s a mistake on sampaoli’s side to part away with lilillo ,had he brought him in Argentina setup that might turn around the situation of indicision that we faced during the world cup as we all know how fluid that Sevilla side was.

    • Yeah but…..playing perreyra isn’t solve our problem either….perreyra is a decent player but his defensive skills are pretty mediocre and he always seems to give opposition players the time to cross from very dangerous positions….and going forward he is very good ….he is a ball carrier……
But again paredes is also not much better….he is too static ….he just pass ghe ball and don’t want it back….he is energyless..
I think we should believe in scaloni and should pass the judgement after copa…
I was really excited to see palacios …may be nexf time now.

      • santiago arias & juan cuadrado vs diMaria and Paredes. thats a no thanks for me. Not pereyra either. Because in that If you drop paredes and keep pereyra, guido will get overrun by cuellar and uribe. you can be sure carlos quiroz will not play the open 433 he showed against peru versus a lionel messi team.

Basically its too early to play diMaria. We needed to see how DePaul plays in the starting XI with paredes and guido.

        • Yes. I’m pretty sure that 433 wont be displayed by Queiroz. Still I think Arias will not give much support for Cuadrado when attack as Cancelo did in Juve. Arias is more defensive-minded than Cancelo. Suppose Tagliafico can be more focused with this. I bet Queiroz more prefer Lerma than Cuellar on midfield next match.

  6. If we want a faster centre back we always have Funes Mori.Pezzella didn’t have his best season, but he was injured and in the last matches of seson Fiorentina lost quite often he was good in some of the last matches.Overall Pezzella had a 7.06 average rating in whole season. Funes Mori had 6.81 rating. With Juan Foyth who played 15 matches and in themnhe started in 12 of the matches.Scored 1 goal.Foyth was great against Man City as a substitute in UCL also against Huddersfield but, against Bournemouth he was penalised with red card.I think Pezzella will be Scaloni’s favorite pick alongside Otamendi who also had not the best seasons he played only 27 matches this season and producing 7.1 rating in them.Made only one mistake against Bournemouth which lead to goal.Overall with his tackles and interceptions he was great not to mention his aerial strength.
As for Paredes issue yes he has good pace also low on stamina.I prefer Pereyra in there who can press high and give defensive support with his energy, workrate.
The team will stand like this if want a balanced team according to most of us in here .Lets hope Scaloni will do his best

    Armani

    Saravia Pezzella Otamendi Tagliafico

    Lo Celso Guido Pereyra

    Messi Aguero Di Maria

The subs can be Acuna/Tagliafico,Paredes/Pereyra,Lautaro or De Paul / Di Maria.
    With the front line of
M.A.D we have won in 15 matches 7 Draws and 1 loss. All of our midfielders attackers and fullbacks werebin great form in their Clubs.I am concerned about central defenders and goalkeepers

  7. As per Tyc;

Argentina lost just one match out of 23 matches played in which Messi-Aguero-Dimaria combination started..!
    1 Lose
    7 Draws
    15 wins…!

  8. Pezzella or Kannemann will be the same. The only CB decently fast is Foyth but he has very few playing time with his club, not enough experienced and too emotional. So our CB will be slow and need the fullbacks to cover them during counter attack.

In the midfield, Di Maria cannot defend that much anymore. Paredes plays very deep and doesn’t move up, he should play as deep as Guido, which makes 2 players in the same zone. So if we lost the ball, nobody will be here for pressing. Lo Celso can help but he also need to create. I guess Scaloni will give freedom to Di Maria and let him oscillate between playmaker and left winger. On the other hand, he will ask Lo Celso to defend more. That won’t give the best to the team. Does it worth to play Paredes to make so much sacrifice? So we have Aguero, Messi and Kun who are above 30 and don’t defend. It will be probably too much.

I would replace Paredes with Guido Rodriguez or even Acuna. At least 1 guy who can press and win back the ball quickly. Also more defensive than Paredes. We don’t need his long pass because we don’t have fast player for counter attack. Besides, I would replace Di Maria by Pereyra. Less talented but more hardworking. He can play on both side and doesn’t make any mistake.

    • Dont agree with your analysis. DiMaria should be attacking from his left midfield position. As much as Lo Celso. We don’t have to sacrifice Lo Celso’s attacking game for DiMaria. I don’t know where are you getting this from. Too much false assumptions I guess. There is no basis Scaloni would do as you said, so we don’t really have to worry about your problem, lol..

Paredes plays very deep anyway. So we will have 6 players to defend. Don’t expect Paredes to be an all around the pitch destroyer, he is not that. But he will defend within his zone. Guido will do more like that. You don’t have to replace Paredes with Guido Rodriguez as the latter is playing already. Paredes’ long pass is not just for counter attack. It would work well against the park the bus side. He can send in passes through the lines or long passes on either side of the pitch that can open up the game all of the sudden. I hope all our players are in top form so they can show what they’re capable of. If it happens, we will only return with the cup.

    • If we want a faster centre back we always have Funes Mori.Pezzella didn’t have his best season, but he was injured and in the last matches of seson Fiorentina lost quite often he was good in some of the last matches.Overall Pezzella had a 7.06 average rating in whole season. 9. I like the team guys, most for most i like the Mood in the room, in all the practices, they are happy, joking, they are having fun this does wonders for a locker room, in the past we’ve seen players here, a few there, 2 over there. I think that after all Scaloni is doing good, he has that fire in him that we need. I had a dream the other days guys that we’ve won it

  10. I like his consistency – keep training with the same line up for two days. We need some chemistry.

One question off the topic, can Scaloni wear a suit and tie during the match? Be more professional please. His casual dress makes him look even more clueless.

  11. Not sure is a good news with Paredes. A player that has been average with his club during past few months cannot transform suddenly into a great player in such a short time. As I said, a coach can have such a faith on a player and sometimes he may lost the reason.

    • I cannot imagine more avarage player than Pereyra, who contributed 0 goals and 0 assists in his club this 2019 year, and Pereyra is not a zentral midfielder nor box to box, plays attacking midfielder or winger on the left side in his club, never played ZM or box to box

      • I agree he’s average in talent but we don’t need 5 creative players if nobody defend. You are wrong on him for CM, he has played this role with Juve when Vidal was injured. He paired with Pogba in front of Pirlo and was decent. Nobody will expect him to dribble and score, his job will be to help pressing and eventually cover Messi if he plays on the right. Btw he scored with Watford. His long distance kick is quite ok. For me, will be similar to Matuidi with France. I don’t say we must need him but he could be useful.

    • Scaloni planned 433 with a midfield of Palacios-Battaglia-LoCelso. His first preference of any formations were this. Unfortunately Battaglia and later Palacios got injured.

Now, he cannot play 433 with that full strength he expected. Pereyra-Rodriguez-LoCeslo is far from the previous combination. But still good.

Now Scaloni may be more anxious about his midfield and wants to go back to 4231..! Or a 442. Paredes-Guido pair with three attacking mid of Dimaria-Messi-LoCelso. It seems its a good and balanced idea than 433 or 4132 with Pereyra. May be later in the match we can go with Pereyra, a 4132 for a more attacking needs or with Guido Pizaro with more defensive 4231. Or even more defensive with Pizaro-Paredes-Rodriguez depends upon the situation.

      • Voila! That’s my thought. Pizarro can play as b2b. I like the idea to have 2 b2b in front of Guido Rodriguez, 1 more in a central position(Pizarro) and 1 more on a flank(Pereyra).

I think the best would have been Battaglia as holding, Zaracho as half 8 on 1 side and Palacios as central midfielder.
