Argentina squad announced for World Cup qualifiers, Paulo Dybala included

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has announced his squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers and Paulo Dybala has been included.

Dybala is the big name inclusion as he has not been selected for the national team in three years. With the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Lucas Alario with knocks, Sergio Aguero out until October and Mauro Icardi out for 3-4 weeks, Scaloni has opted for the jewel from Juventus.

In addition, with goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin having undergone surgery on his knee, Geronimo Rulli of Villarreal has been included. Juan Foyth, who was part of the two World Cup qualifying matches prior to Argentina winning the Copa America, is also back in the team. Emiliano Buendia of Aston Villa is included after, like Foyth, he missed out on the Copa America.

The squad for the September qualifiers is very similar to that which won the Copa America but with some new additions.

  2. Very strong squad but Scaloni can not leave even injured Lautaro Martinez. It is good that Scaloni did not call Ocampus he was very underperforming.
Foyth,Buendia and Dybla are deserved candidates. They should be in playing eleven. There are 3 Right Backs,RB does not look like weak spot for Argentina anymore.
Tagliafico should move from Eredivese he is too good for Eredivese.

      • Don’t expect any major changes for Scaloni’s pecking order. He will stick with his winning team which means: Emi Martinez; Montiel/Molina, Otamendi, Romero, Acuna; Paredes, Lo Celso, De Paul; Messi, Di Maria, Lautaro

are his starters and Armani, Montiel/Molina, Pezzella, Tagliafico, Guido Rodriguez, Palacios, Papu, A. Correa, Nico Gonzales are his main back ups.

These 20 players are his core players. The only addition he can add to those above is Dybala because Aguero is injured.

Everyone else is for “insurance purpose” (in case any of those 20 above are unavailable/not fit/suspended).

      • Foyth will grab his place, he is one of the best in Villareal and he has impressed Emery so much.
Montiel will not be a regular player but rotational player at Sevilla, Mollina is only playing Serie A while Foyth is playing Champion League football and La Liga as regular player.

        • Oh you start again with Foyth ? It wasnt enough last summer ?

Your boy was horrible against Chelsea 10 days ago for his first game of the season and took a Red Card during his second game. So can you stop to lie ?

I dont know if you sleep with naked picture of Foyth on your wall but you are boring to read.

          • You do not watch football Foyth was amazing vs Chelsea and his red card was canceled by La liga and he played next match. Fool just check the facts

    • Ocampos is injured of course he wouldn’t call him, would definitely take him over buendia I’ve never seen him play well he only plays well against div 2 quality Ocampos brings pace, height and physicality that most Argentine players can’t bring

  3. Buendia is the only one in the list..yet to debut.
Expect Senesi join a new club in the top league. That will raise his level and make him a starting player for NT.

  4. Overall a very strong squad.

0 player from the Olympic team which is fair.
All players from the copa America team which is fair.

4 well deserved addition in: Rulli, Foyth, Buendia, and Dybala.

Glad Scaloni calls up Dybala instead of Gaich or Simeone.

First match against Venezuela: Paredes and Cuti Romero suspended.

  5. Why Lucas Martinez quarta? Why not senesi why not medina why not balerdi?why armani in what basics he always got selected in national team? Also Alvarez selection in what basics? Except these everything is perfect!

    • 14:45Inter striker Lautaro Martinez will be fit to start against Hellas Verona on Friday, though it remains to be seen if he will be selected by head coach Simone Inzaghi copy from Italian media

  6. As expected. All Copa America heroes are here but the 2 injured ones: Aguero and Marchesin.

The new 3: Buendia, Rulli (starter now at Villarreal), Dybala.

The ones not making the squad: Ocampos and Palomino

    • Hi, u most propably know and maybe u could give perhaps an answer to my question which is about posession of Nico Dominquez, so is he a winger more or less or is he more of an central middfielder ? I’m just wondering if Scaloni should have taken Lamela in not sure though who to take out, but in case of defence i would have love Scaloni to pick Senesi instead of either Quarta or Pezzella, maybe the latter though he is more experienced than Quarta, but my point is that time is running all the time and Scaloni must include Senesi at some point maybe even 1 more new central defender would be good to bring around at least to NT and hopefully to give them some minutes if possible, but more importantly i think he should start to give more minutes to Lisandro and try play him along side Cuti if possible and i think also depending about our opponent though i think Lisandro will do fine job even against tall strikers as i think he can jump up to air and actually to quite high as well as in Netherlands they do have the tallest people of this planet and that is fact which i think was mentioned by Olive if i remember correctly…hopefully Spurs will keep it going as same goes for Sevilla also very intrested of how Fiorentina will get their job done this season in serie A and hopefully they will be able to fight for Europa league spot’s though competition in serie a between all the teams is quite exiciting even many good players have left because of this bloody pandemic Crisis etc… stay well as possible and let’s hope for good outcome from Albiceleste’s WCQ’s !
