OFFICIAL: Argentina’s 2018 World Cup Kit

7

Argentina’s 2018 World Cup kit (the home one) has just been unveiled and per Adidas fashion for this World Cup, they are going retro.

All of the 2018 World Cup shirts which are made by Adidas have a retro look. Germany, Spain, Colombia, Argentina and the list goes on, all were heavily influenced by a design from the past. For Argentina, part of the design was in conjunction with the AFA’s 125-year anniversary. The team will debut the kit on Saturday against Russia.

There are three iconic blue and white stripes which are blended with subtly incorporated laurels on the front and the back. The base will feature an all white surrounding and the collar is cut off from the stripes which apparently was inspired by the same kit worn when Argentina won the 1991 and 1993 Copa America, the country’s last major trophies. Another key element is the Argentinian coat of arms and the AFA crest; giving this kit a classic look. Here’s the description of it all on Adidas website.

“Three decades. That’s how long Argentina’s fans had waited for their team to claim South America’s biggest prize. So when la Selección became continental champions in 1991, the kit they did it in became instantly iconic. Inspired by that memorable strip, this men’s football jersey is a replica of the official jersey Argentina will wear as they take on the world this summer in Russia. It has a slightly looser cut and sweat-wicking Climalite for fan comfort and displays a woven Argentina badge.”

For me personally, this design does have some throwback to the Italia 90 version.

I must say overall I do love this design and most certainly will be grabbing one right before my next holiday trip (it’s essential to wear something that represents you wherever you go!).

So what do you think about this kit? Love it? Hate it? Feel free to leave us your comment.

Giovani LO CELSO called up to Argentina squad

Breaking news coming out that Giovani LO CELSO has been called-up to the Argentina squad.

This is the first time that the PSG man has made the Argentina team. According to reports, River Plate’s Enzo PEREZ is a doubt for both of Argentina’s matches against Russia and Nigeria hence the reason for LO CELSO’s call-up. Giovani was part of the 2016 Argentina Olympic team which got eliminated in the group stages.

Here’s the updated Argentina list for the two matches:

Manuel LANZINI scores for West Ham against Liverpool

One of West Ham’s best players on the pitch (if not the best player), Manuel LANZINI scored for West Ham against Liverpool.

A match to forget for the hammers but a solid performance from the former River Plate man as he scored in West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool. With Liverpool up 2-0, West Ham’s number 10 scored his first goal of the season. However, only 55 seconds after the Argentine international found the back of the net, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored for Liverpool.

While not in the latest Argentina squad, he will surely give coach Jorge SAMPAOLI a lot of problems while putting together the list next time.

Emanuel MAMMANA comes in for injured MERCADO

27

Gabriel  MERCADO will not take part in Argentina’s upcoming tour of Russia after suffering an injury to his right hamstring.

His club, Sevilla have just confirmed this stating that he will not take part in the weekend’s clash against Barcelona. Jorge SAMPAOLI has decided to call upon Emanuel MAMMANA of Zenit St. Petersburg as the replacement. MAMMANA was initially named as one of the reserves when the squad’s was announced last week. His last appearance for Argentina was in the 6-0 win over Singapore back in June.

For MAMMANA, it means little travelling as he is based in Russia and both friendly matches will be held in that country.

Cristian PAVON and three others make Argentina list

Cristian PAVON is the latest name called-up from the domestic league.

With the two matches against Russia and Nigeria fast approaching, Jorge SAMPAOLI has called-up four players based in Argentina. Those four players being youngster Cristian PAVON (Boca Juniors), Enzo PEREZ (River Plate)’ Dario BENEDETTO (Boca Juniors) and Fernando BBELLUSCHI (San Lorenzo).

With Lucas BIGLIA’s injury, SAMPAOLI decided to name a replacement, with that player being Emiliano INSUA of Stuttgart. Here is the updated list (including the four domestic players):
