It was a list of big names who scored in Europe this weekend as Lionel MESSI, Angel DI MARIA, Manuel LANZINI and Eduardo SALVIO all found the back of the net.
Beginning in England, Manuel LANZINI continues to impress for his side, this time scoring twice for West Ham United in their 4-1 win against Huddersfield. LANZINI’s name has been in the press the past few days as a possible replacement for Barcelona’s COUTINHO, who left Liverpool earlier in the transfer market.
Moving to Portugal, Eduardo SALVIO scored in Benfica’s 3-1 win against Braga. It was an Argentine connection on the goal as Franco CERVI provided the assist.
Next to the border in Spain, it was a Lionel MESSI goal and a Lionel MESSI record. The little guy scored a marvelous free kick past Geronimo RULLI in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Real Sociedad. The win takes them nine points clear of Diego SIMEONE’s Atletico Madrid and ensures that they are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five leagues (after Manchester City lost 4-3 to Liverpool).
MESSI’s goal was his 366th league goal, edging him past the German Gerd MULLER’s record of strikes in a European top five league.
Right across to France, Angel DI MARIA scored the lone goal in PSG’s 1-0 win against FC Nantes.
