Sub-20: Argentina vs Brazil

28

Hey guys!

Today the Argentina Sub-20 national team plays against Brazil in a must win match if they are to make to the World Cup in S. Korea this summer.  They currently sit in 5th place in the table.  They’re last game was a poor display where they lost 3-0 to the host of the  tournament: Ecuador.

Coach Claudio Ubeda is obliged to make a change for today’s match as defender Lisandro Martinez is suspended.  Milton Valenzuela who started against Uruguay and Colombia will replace Martinez.  Also, Nahuel Molinda may also make a return to the starting lineup for Nicolas Salazar who did not play his best match vs Ecuador.  Lastly, midfielder Julian Chicco may also lose his spot to Tomas Belmonte who has served his two game suspension.

What do you guys think? Will we beat Brazil? Do we have any chance? Or have you lost all hope with this team?  Last game was very a poor display.  There’s no excuses. Not even the altitude.

Los Pibes Lose Again!

Argentina Under 20 suffered their second defeat in the Hexagon round, this time to Ecuador 3-0!

Ecuador took the lead before half time with a penalty from Pervis ESTUPINAN and in the second half, Jordy CAICEDO and Bryan CABEZAS sealed the win for the home side.

The result leave Claudio UBEDA’s boys now second from bottom with just 3 points and with the next march against Brazil; things could get even more complicated with regards to qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup to be held in South Korea later this year.

A far cry from what our youth side used to be, sadly!

When Leo Met Patrick from the Patriots!

Congratulations to the New England Patriots, campeone Super Bowl LI!

Just thought of writing something that is related to this even, for the fun of it!

Here’s an interesting throwback that happened almost 8 months ago when Argentina were taking on Venezuela during the Copa América Centenario quarter-final at the Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots.

Among those who attended to watch the game in which Argentina won 4-1 was Pats safefy, Patrick CHUNG!

Right after the game, CHUNG took the opportunity to meet Lionel MESSI and gave him signed helmet and a Pat’s jersey with Leo’s name on it. MESSI returned the gesture with a signed Argentina’s kit for CHUNG!

Sorry about the photo, as these were the only ones available.

Sub-20: Argentina vs Ecuador

Hey everyone,

“Los pibes” play in a couple of hours against host Ecuador in their 3rd match of this hexagonal phase.  After a very agonizing match against Colombia in their last match the boys will try to for a second straight win.   A win for them would get them closer to this summer’s World Cup but it doesn’t guarantee them a spot.  Coach Ubeda is going to start with the same players that started against Colombia. Coach Claudio Ubeda also recently stated, “Ecuador has the ability to recover the ball, but we are we’re willing to give a fight to any team that we face.”

Probable Formation:

Argentina:

Goalkeeper: Facundo Cambeses

Defense: Nicolás Zalazar, Cristian Romero, Juan Foyth, Milton Valenzuela

Midfielders: Santiago Ascacíbar, Brian Mansilla, Julián Chicco, Tomás Conechny

Forwards: Marcelo Torres & Lautaro Martínez

Lionel MESSI, PIATTI, RUIZ and FUNES MORI all score

Goals in Spain, Portugal and Mexico as Lionel MESSI, Pablo PIATTI, Alan RUIZ and Rogelio FUNES MORI all find the back of the net.

Lionel MESSI continues his impressive run of free kick goals this year as the magical number 10 scored yet another one in Barcelona’s 3-0 win against Athletic Bilbao. MESSI has now scored four free kick goals in 2017, three of which have come against the Basque team. MESSI’s free kick goal is his 27th for Barcelona which makes him the player with the most free kick goals for the club.

Still in Spain, former Valencia man Pablo PIATTI scored for RCD Espanyol in their 1-0 win against Malaga. A long range strike from PIATTI was enough for Espanyol to pick up the win.

In Portugal, former Gimnasia and San Lorenzo player Alan RUIZ (also former Argentina U20) scored a fantastic goal for Sporting in their 2-1 loss to FC Porto. RUIZ controlled the ball with his chest and hit the volley past Iker CASILLAS for the goal.

In Mexico, it was one former River Plate player scoring against another. Rogelio FUNES MORI scored a nice little chip goal for Monterrey against BAROVERO’s Necaxa.
