Genoa have officially confirmed the signing of Giovanni Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone. He was previously on loan playing with Banfield in the Primera Division. There will be a formal presentation to the media tomorrow: Friday August 19. Simeone has recently returned from the Rio Olympics, where he made three appearances for Argentina. Roberto PEREYRA is very close to joining English Premier League club Watford.
According to reports, Watford have reached an agreement in principle to sign the Juventus midfielder. PEREYRA’s agent has confirmed that a deal in principle has been reached. Apparently, the fee is in the £13 million region. Should that be the fee, PEREYRA would become the club’s record signing. Here’s what his agent had to say:
“There is a negotiation going on between the two clubs. There is a draft agreement but in football you can tell it is done only when there are signatures. The two companies are working to make ends meet.”
Lionel MESSI and Javier MASCHERANO lifted yet another trophy with Barcelona.
Lionel MESSI scored the third goal (and also assisted one) in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory against Sevilla to win the Spanish Super Cup. MESSI lifted his first trophy ever as captain of the team (first captain Andres INIESTA out injured) and his 29th overall. For Sevilla, Matias KRANEVITTER, Joaquin CORREA and Gabriel MERCADO all started for SAMPAOLI’s team with Luciano VIETTO coming on as a substitute.
Javier MASCHERANO had to be taken off as he was injured. The length of his injury remains unknown.

Edgardo BAUZA spoke about the number 9 position, MESSI, MASCHERANO and more.
Speaking to a radio station in Argentina, new National Team coach Edgardo BAUZA revealed who could be his starting number 9 in the team. Here’s what he had to say:
“We’ll see who will start alongside MASCHERANO; maybe BANEGA can play a bit further up. And up front, PRATTO has a good chance (of being the number 9) but it’s between him, AGUERO and ALARIO.”
“MESSI’s important and will wear the captain’s armband. But there’s six, seven players who are also symbols (of the team), who share the same idea. In this team, it’s not just one captain.”
“In the National Team, one plays with his best players against the best players. That means you can’t do anything wrong, that mistakes cost you a lot. At the international level, everyone has to attack and everyone has to defend. The other day I saw MESSI running to win back the ball in a friendly match. Why can’t he do it? There’s no use having two defensive midfielders if the others don’t help out.”
Sergio AGUERO had a match to remember for Manchester City.
Manchester City played Steau Bucharest in a Champions League qualifier with the result being 5-0 in City’s favor. However, it was AGUERO who took all the spotlight. Kun missed not one but two penalty kicks in the match but later went on to score a hattrick.
AGUERO, who was selected for next month’s World Cup Qualifiers, has now scored 8 hattricks for his club. Pablo ZABALETA started and captained the team with Willy CABALLERO and Nicolas OTAMENDI also starting.
